Diggs collecting early offers

Rockville (Md.) Wootton 2016 wide receiver Trevon Diggs has early offers from Maryland, N.C. State, Nebraska, North Carolina & Virginia, with his most recent tender caming from a Big Ten program.

“The most recent offer was Penn State, I want to say a week ago,” Diggs said. “I don’t really know too much about it, but from what I see and talking to a couple of kids, they say the like it a lot. They are like a family down there, so I guess it’s a good school.”

However, the 6-foot, 165-pound Diggs says it is a new member of the Big Ten that is recruiting him the hardest early on.

“Maryland," he said. "It makes me feel good the coaches are concerned about what I’m doing in school and out of school, but other than that, it’s the same. Mike Locksley, he wants me to go there. I know if I went there, they would treat me right, but I don’t really know.”

Diggs has a connection to the Terps as his older brother, Stefon, is a star wide receiver who signed with Maryland in 2012.

“There isn’t really a particular message besides they want me to go there,” Diggs explained. “My brother is there. He helps me a lot, he just tells me the good things and the bad things about programs. He doesn’t show any favoritism to any school. He just says wherever makes you happy, you should go.”

There are two programs in particular talking to the rising junior who have yet to offer, but would make a splash in Diggs’ recruitment if they did extend a tender.

“Georgia and USC,” he answered. “USC is out in Cali, the weather and stuff. I talk to the receivers coach. I feel like it’s a great team to be a part of, the family, the teammates, the competition, it’s something different.

“We went to Georgia’s practice and I really liked how their wide receiver coach taught the kids. The little things, how they practice, how it’s set up, it just felt like the SEC is very structured. I liked it a lot, it’s a really pretty campus.”

As a sophomore, Diggs caught 78 passes for 1,103 yards and 13 touchdowns.
