Knoxvegas Heat Tourney – Day 2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A full recap of Saturday's action at the Knoxvegas Heat Tournament.

2013 Solomon Poole (Atlanta Celtics)
The younger brother of Georgia Tech wing Stacey Poole looked as under control as I have seen him in the past two years. Poole still possesses that lethal first step that makes him so difficult to guard along with deep range that forces defenders to play up on. At 6-foot-1, Poole is another scoring point guard that can create and open up his teammates or score at will to take over a game.

2013 Sidy Mohammad (Upward Stars)
The 6-foot-9 forward continues to improve each time out and his progress from two weeks ago to Saturday was impressive. Mohammad runs the floor extremely well and to put himself in position for easy baskets in transition. In the half court offense, he is very good at establishing position and finishing with either hand around the basket. Look for Mohammad to see his offer sheet fill up as coaches hit the road next weekend.

2013 Harold Givens (Worldwide Renegades)
Givens is a bouncy 6-foot-7 wing that gets off the floor extremely quick to be nuisance around the basket. In the afternoon game on Saturday, Givens recorded five blocks in the first half and finished with eight overall along altering several other shots in the lane. On top of his defensive effort on Saturday, Givens added double digit points offensively knocking down several jumpers and hitting a three pointer.

2013 Schuyler Rimmer (Florida Q6)
I have not seen another basketball player that plays as hard as Rimmer on the AAU circuit. The 6-foot-9 power forward is not the best athlete in his class but more than makes up for it with willingness to throw his body on the ground and get physical in the paint. Rimmer is just not a hustle guy though as he is very good with his back to the basket, showing nice footwork and the ability to step out and knock down the eight to ten foot jumper.

2013 Pookie Powell (Showtime Ballers)
Despite having already played two games on Saturday afternoon, Powell was at his best in the final game of pool play carrying his team to victory. The six foot point guard was fantastic scoring in a variety of ways by using his excellent change of pace to either get to the rim and finish in traffic or create space and knock down a short jumper. Powell even showed some nice range hitting from behind the three point line to round out his performance.

2013 Austin Ajukwa (SC Elite)
Ajukwa made the list of notables two weeks ago at the IceBreaker Tournament and is back here again after a solid Saturday morning game in which he led his team to victory. The 6-foot-5 wing is becoming more aggressive at taking the ball to the basket and handled the ball well against pressure.

2013 Terrance Odonohue (Atlanta Celtics)
Odonohue was solid on the glass in the early morning game for Atlanta Celtics on Saturday. The 6-foot-7 forward did a good job grabbing rebounds for easy put backs or to get his team into transition on the defensive end of the floor. Odonohue is also a physical player in the post who used his strength to defend extremely well and create post position on offense for easy baskets.

2013 Clay Byrd (Team United)
Byrd is one of the best pure shooters in the southeast and has showed that again this weekend catching fire from deep for Team United. The 6-foot-2 lefty has a sweet stroke and excels at getting out in transition and finding an open spot for his teammates to get him the ball with a clean look at the basket.

2013 Markus Terry (Worldwide Renegades)
Terry got off to a great start on Saturday afternoon connecting from deep and making several nice drives to the basket. The 6-foot-1 guard is a well built point guard that is solid off the dribble and finishing at the rim with contact.

2013 Jordan Capps (Worldwide Renegades)
Capps teamed with Harold Givens on Saturday to give the Renegades a very strong one-two punch in the post. The 6-foot-6 power forward is a fantastic athlete that can finish around the rim with the best of them in the 2013 class. Capps also showcased a nice passing touch from the short corner finding a cutters moving through the lane for easy lay ups.

2015 P.J. Dozier (Upward Stars)
Dozier has the potential to be one of the top rated prospects in the class of 2015. Just based on size alone, Dozier stands out as he is already 6-foot-3 and his father is 6-foot-11 and a former college standout at South Carolina. On Saturday, Dozier showed the type of composure really seen by freshman to go along with the ability to score. Dozier is certainly one to keep an eye on moving forward.
