Roberts Earning Some Spotlight

Aaron Roberts

Chicago (Ill.) De La Salle is off to a 2-0 start led by a strong running game.

Heading into the season, Top247 junior running back Mikale Wilbon and Top247 junior offensive tackle Jamarco Jones were getting all the headlines.

Fellow junior offensive guard Aaron Roberts is deserving of serious recognition too.

Running behind Roberts and Jones, Wilbon gained 327 yards and scored four touchdowns in the opener before rushing for another 170 yards and three scores in Thursday night’s win.

“Aaron came in with the raw size when he was a freshman,” De La Salle head coach Dan O’Keefe said. “He really grew in the offseason. And not just size wise. In everything he did last year, he is better now. His grades are up. He’s 6-6. He was 6-3 as a sophomore. He’s a little taller than Jamarco. He’s 285 pounds.”

Northwestern already has Roberts on the radar from camp this summer. O’Keefe thinks the phone will start ringing with many more suitors soon enough.

“Good feet,” O’Keefe began. “He has potential to be a great player. He and Jamarco play on the same side of the line this season. They’re playing styles are going to be similar. They have the same offensive line coach. They’ve lifted in the same strength program. They work on speed and agility all the time. It’s like having another Jamarco which is really nice.”
