Over the course of the past few years Nike has transformed their key Spring event into the benchmark event known as 'The Opening.'
Teddy Bridgewater won back to back 7On championships in Beaverton.
Originally it was transformed from a 7-on-7 championship that included top high school teams from around the country. It was also a known as a coming out party for Teddy Bridgewater who won back to back championships with his Miami Northwestern team.
Now the top talent is brought individually from around the country and drafted into elite 7-on-7 teams. Additionally the event now is combined with the Elite-11 and Sparq championship. Also Beaverton (Ore.) is now host to an elite lineman challenge featuring full pads.
With the advanced recruiting calendar, the Opening may have positioned themselves quite nicely to coincide with the flurry of early commitments that has now taken over the college football landscape.
Here is a list of expected announcements and the latest with each. Announcements will all be made prior to the start of the championship game and will air on ESPNU during the telecast on July 3.
The four-star Lake City (Fla.) Columbia safety is scheduled to announce at 'The Opening.' Marshall is the No. 245 ranked player via the 247Composite in the nation.
Florida State is the current favorite to land Marshall with Ole Miss and Florida also in the mix.
Currently the crystal ball has 12 predictions with 100% certainty for Florida State.
Could Cal surge late for Wadood?
Lakewood (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star defensive back Jaleel Wadood is also planning to make his announcement at the Opening. Wadood recently decommitted from ASU and will now decide among UCLA, USC, Cal and ASU.
The Crystal Ball points to USC to land the nation's No. 236 overall player, per the 247Composite. However don't sleep on Cal or UCLA who also have a legit shot with my (and Barton Simmons) money on Cal.
Another Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco defensive back will make the call at The Opening as well. Four-star Naijiel Hale is also set for his announcement which could get interesting. Arizona has been the team to beat but Cal is making a late push. If Wadood commits to Cal, don't be surprised if Hale joins him.
Hale is the No. 283 overall player in the nation per the 247Composite.
Oregon is the clear favorite for Springs at this time.
The Crystal Ball is predicting 100-percent Arizona with ten picks. Watch out for Cal.
San Antonio (Texas) Roosevelt cornerback Arrion Springs is yet another defensive back making the call at the Opening. The nation's No. 97 overall player just returned from a trip to Eugene claiming he was down to Oregon and Texas. The Ducks seemingly have a substantial lead at this time as the July 3rd announcement nears.
The Crystal Ball is predicting 100-percent to Oregon with 20 picks.
Ponta Vedra (Fla.) linebacker Dillon Bates is the No. 113 overall player in the country per the 247Composite. Right now Tennessee is the overwhelming with Alabama and Florida in the race among others.
However, the Crystal Ball currently has 44 picks with Bates headed to knoxville.
El Cerrito (Calif.) four-star linebacker D.J. Calhoun is now confirmed as announcing at the Opening. This figures to be a very tight battle with USC and UCLA. His sister is enrolled at USC pulling him that way but UCLA was first to show him much interest which he appreciates.
The Crystal Ball currently has 75-percent of 8 votes in favor of USC.
The East Lake (Fla.) receiver was another late addition to the announcement plans. For a while Clemson has been in the driver's seat for the nation's No. 79 overall player. However Scott has gone quiet and details have gotten harder to get on his recruitment. Florida is the dark horse but at the end of the day he may be Clemson bound.
The Crystal Ball currently has 13 of 15 picks for the Tigers.
- Mater Dei (Calif.) defensive back Jonathan Lockett was planning to announce at the Opening but has since changed his mind. He will visit Washington this week before arriving in Beaverton.
