Carmel (Ind.) High junior receiver Austin Roberts saw his latest offer come from Illinois last Thursday.
The Illini joined a growing group already consisting of Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Miami, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue and Stanford.
A 247Composite four-star, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Roberts moved from the Tampa, Fla. area to the Indianapolis area prior to his junior season because his father Alfredo Roberts took a job as an assistant with the Colts. The elder Roberts knows coach Tim Banks on the Illinois coaching staff.
“I’ve seen them at the school,” the younger Roberts said, adding he plans to learn more about Illinois.
“I still remember back when Juice Williams and Rashard Mendehall where there and they were pretty good. They’re a program on the rise and I want to take a look into that.”
Roberts has a few visits coming up.
“I’m probably going to Michigan and Michigan State in the spring,” Roberts said. “I’m going to visit Florida this spring break. I’m still trying to figure out a couple more.”
Roberts has taken previous trips to Indiana, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Northwestern, Purdue, Miami and Stanford. As he continues to work slowly through the recruiting process, he’s starting to build some strong relationships.
“Ohio State and Florida, Michigan and a few others,” Roberts said. “I’m keeping a good relationship with them and I’m excited to see how this all pans out.”
