Berk high on Colorado

JaQuan Davidson

Grand Junction (Colo.) jumbo athlete Austin Berk is waiting on his first scholarship offer. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound prep is hearing from Colorado, North Texas, FIU and Eastern Washington.

Colorado isn't necessarily a recruiting hotbed but typically can produce a few top tier players each year. Is Berk one of the next big Colorado preps?

"I had a really good junior season and it's showing up I think already," Berk said. "I had one of my best games all season against Shane Callahan and I think a lot of people took notice. I was one of only five juniors named to the All-State first team, so that feels pretty good."

The in-state Buffaloes have made Berk a priority and the efforts are paying off early.

"Colorado is my top school right now," he said. "I've been up there before and talked with all of the coaches and really got to know them. They said they like me for tight end or defensive end and I'll play either position. I just like the coaching staff, the education and I feel comfortable there."

Berk plans to attend junior day at Colorado in March and feels he may earn his offer at that time.

"I'm not worried about who offers or getting a bunch of offers, if a school decides to show interest then that is great. I'm really happy with how things are going so far and we'll just see what happens this Spring."
