Just like that, there’s a new No. 1 recruiter in the 247Sports recruiter rankings for the Class of 2014.
Georgia running backs coach Bryan McClendon took over the top spot in the 247Sports recruiter rankings for the 2014 cycle on Sunday.
On Friday, during Georgia’s annual “Dawg Night” event, 247Composite four-star safety Kendall Gant (Lakeland, Fla./Lake Gibson) pledged to the Bulldogs. Then, Top247 offensive guard Isaiah Wynn (St. Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood) pledged to Georgia on Sunday, vaulting McClendon from No. 3 to No. 1 overall.
McClendon now has six verbal commitments for the 2014 class for Georgia, which currently has the nation’s No. 3 class. Included in his impressive haul are running backs Sony Michel (247Composite five-star) and Nick Chubb (247Sports five-star), sleeper receiver Gilbert Johnson (Miami, Fla./Southridge) and 247Composite three-star safety Nick Glass.
McClendon may not be finished, either. He’s the Georgia recruiter of record for consensus five-star defensive end Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga.).
The Chicago native, who played at Georgia, was thought to be set up for a big year on the recruiting trail given the number of high-level Bulldogs targets in his recruiting area(s) and that is coming to fruition currently.
Following McClendon in the national rankings are Craig, Jeremy Pruitt (Florida State), Mike Vrabel (Ohio State). David Beaty (Texas A&M), Travaris Robinson (Florida), Chip West (Virginia), Kirby Smart (Alabama), Jerry Montgomery (Oklahoma) and Clarence McKinney (Texas A&M).
