COLUMBUS, Ohio – With talent flying all over the place at the Ohio Nike Camp last weekend, it took a lot to stand out from the crowd so when Chauncey Scissum – an unheralded prospect out of Rochester, N.Y. separated himself, we took notice.
Despite being from the lightly recruited area of upstate New York, Scissum currently holds offers from Towson, UMass, Bowling Green, Buffalo and Old Dominion. With his size, athleticism and cover skills, the cornerback could easily see his list fill up significantly this summer, particularly since his lacrosse scheduled has taken up much of his spring.
In fact, Scissum has offers from Syracuse and Towson specifically for lacrosse. The big corner is hoping that his football skills earn him some more opportunities though.
“I’ve heard a little bit from Syracuse,” Scissum said. “They want me to go to their camps this summer. Several schools want me to go to their camps. Pitt, I’m hearing from them a lot and UConn and also Boston College too.”
Currently Scissum has plans to camp at Boston College and North Carolina as well as Buffalo. The camp at North Carolina in particular is one that Scissum is anxious to hit.
“If I could, I’d like to go to North Carolina,” he said. “I like their school and stuff like that. I like the south and I have a lot of family in the south. I’ve heard a lot from UNC’s lacrosse program. I need to talk more to their football coaches.”
Scissum was named one of the top ten performers from the Ohio Nike Camp and with fantastic size and strength for a cornerback, it’s likely he will impress in several settings this summer as well.
