Other schools showing early interest in the 6-foot-4, 216-pound Durkin includes Penn State, Ohio State, Virginia, Northwestern, Cincinnati, Bowling Green and Ohio.

Durkin earned his offer from Toledo at camp on Sunday.

“I like their spread offense, and I’m looking to go to school for medicine and they have a university hospital on campus, and that’s a big plus for me.”

The next day, Durkin found himself on the phone with Illini assistant Steven Clinkscale.

“He said we think you’d be a great asset for the Illinois football team and we’d love to have you come down for a camp and tour the campus,” Durkin recapped.

“It’s the Big Ten. That was huge for me. Illinois being my first offer from the Big Ten was real big. I’m going to do a little more research on Illinois and figure out more about them, and hopefully I’ll get down there for a camp and visit the campus.”

Durkin plans to camp at Florida on June 9. He’ll be at Ohio State for camp on June 10. He’ll also attend camps at Bowling Green on June 12 and Pittsburgh on June 16.
