The Cal commit list just got even better today. Mountlake Terrace (Wash.) athlete Devante Downs added his four-star talents to the list and committed to the Bears this afternoon.
Downs is the top rated commit for Cal.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound prep had recently completed ACL surgery and was unsure of his future. But the idea of graduating early and rehabbing at top notch college facilities proved to be ideal for his future.
"I really liked it when I was down there," Downs said. "My mom went to and she liked it as well. I like the coaches and how they use their system."
With a major in mind, Downs said the education played a major role in his decision.
"Cal is great academically and especially their chemistry program. I want to be a pharmacist and that really made this decision easy. The coaches have been very supportive since my surgery and want me to get down there and rehab with their trainers. I think that's a great idea and I'm so happy to be a part of this program."
The nation's No. 84 overall player is considering taking other visits but was unsure of that decision.
"I'm 100-percent committed but I don't know. I think I'll only visit Cal but you never know."
Downs will be brought in as an athlete including a shot at running back.
