Drummond moves to No. 1 in 2012

In a battle of big men, Andre Drummond has moved past Shabazz Muhammad in the class of 2012 basketball recruiting rankings.

247Sports and PrepStars.com are proud to unveil the updated top 100 prospects in the class of 2012.

Rob Harrington of PrepStars.com said it was a tough call to put Drummond in the top spot.

"We wouldn't quibble with anyone who chose to keep Muhammad in the top spot, but Drummond has made strides and looks more athletic than ever," Harrington said. "Drummond won the No. 1 spot with a dazzling set of games in Las Vegas late in the summer evaluation period."

Isaiah Austin held on to the No. 3 spot, but Kyle Anderson and Mitch McGary moved into the top five. The remainder of the top 10 includes Anthony Bennett (previously No. 9), Brandon Ashley (up from 20th) Marcus Smart (formerly No. 17), Steven Adams and Ricardo Ledo (down from fifth).

Adams made the bigggest move, jumping into the top 10 after being unranked previously. A native of New Zealand, Adams is a Pittsburgh commitment.

"As a prospect outside of North America, Adams wasn't previously eligible for our rankings," Harrington said. "Now he is playing at Notre Dame Prep (in Massachusetts), thus he claims a legitimate place among the elite in this class."

Two guards who made big moves were Kris Dunn (PG) and Smart. The move into the top 10 for Smart was based on a late-summer surge. Harrington now has Dunn as the top-ranked point guard.

"Dunn took control and emerged as the clear top player at his position," Harrington said. "While he still must continue to hone his craft, he's a tremendous physical talent with a very bright long-term future."

Two players who just missed the top 100 were Michigan State commit Kenny Kaminski and St. John's commitment Darrick Wood.

A few notables who dropped out of the top 100 are Kale Abrahamson, Charles Mann, Mike Tobey, Brandon Bolden and Craig Sword.
