Durham Smythe is no longer committed to Texas.
Texas lost a four-star commitment Wednesday when tight end Durham Smythe (Belton, Texas) backed out of his pledge to the Longhorns.
Durham High head coach Rodney Southern confirmed the news to Bobby Burton of Hookem.com.
Southern said that Smythe called Texas defensive coordinator and area recruiter Manny Diaz and informed him of his decision. Recently-departed offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin was originally his recruiter. Harsin accepted the head coaching position at Arkansas State on Tuesday.
Smythe is the fourth player to de-commit from the Longhorns this recruiting cycle.
Smythe also had offers from Baylor, Florida, Kansas, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and more. He is the nation's sixth-ranked tight end prospect according to 247Sports.
