Valencia (Calif.) College of Canyons safety Eric Finney committed to Illinois this past weekend during his official visit to Champaign.
The 6-foot, 210-pound Finney will play the star position in the Illini defense.
It was the atmosphere and coaching staff that sealed the deal for Finney, who played his high school ball at Corona (Calif.) Centennial.
“It was a beautiful place to be,” Finney said.
“The coaching staff preaches a family-type atmosphere and being for one cause. They’re an honest group and always honest throughout the process.
“The atmosphere of the school, it’s a college town and it’s Big Ten football and everyone is committed to the team. The facilities are awesome and they preached academics which was very big for me.”
Finney was one of two commits for Illinois this weekend, as fellow JUCO prospect in defensive tackle Abens Cajuste also pulled the trigger. The Illini have 23 commits in the class-of-2013.
The Division-I interest recently started to pick up for Finney, but he’s locked into his decision.
“Illinois was always my focus,” he stated.
Finney will enroll at Illinois in January.
