First SEC Offer For Jones

The month of May has been a good month for Chicago (IL) De La Salle offensive tackle Jamarco Jones, who is fast emerging as one of the state’s top prospects in the class of 2014.

Illinois offered the 6-foot-5, 290-pound Jones on May 2, and on Monday, Vanderbilt extended a verbal scholarship.

Jones is excited about the possibilities regarding both programs.

“Vanderbilt, they’re a great academic school,” Jones said. “They’re in the SEC, probably the best conference in college football. They have been doing well lately.

“Illinois, they’re the in-state school. They’re also great academically. They just had the coaching staff switch, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they’re going to do this year.”

Several other schools are showing interest and have visited De La Salle during the current college coaches evaluation period. Jones says he’s looking to camp at Illinois, Iowa, Notre Dame and maybe Stanford during the summer.

“Right now I don’t really have a favorite,” Jones said. “I’m just looking at all the schools.”

Jones has a 4.2 GPA and is looking to major in accounting.
