Devonte Thornton (Marietta, Ga./Osborne) received an offer from Florida Atlantic early on Tuesday morning. It did not take long for the 6-foot-7 wing to make his decision to join head coach Mike Jarvis’s program.
Devonte Thornton averaged 19 points and six rebounds this past season.
“The family atmosphere there is great,” Thornton said. “They have a good coach and I like their staff. They made me feel at home and I really liked it down there.”
Thornton has developed a strong relationship with Jarvis as well as his lead recruiter Tim Kaine. He offered his thoughts on the head coach for the Owls.
“I met Coach Jarvis through Coach (Tim) Kaine,” Thornton said. “Our relationship is real good. He talked to me and told me what was going to happen when I reached the college level and what was going to go on. He was just a real nice guy and everything.”
Thornton choose Florida Atlantic over offers from Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State and Jacksonville among others. He believes his skill set and energy can make an early impact on the Owls program.
“I think I can help them pretty early,” Thornton said. “I do a good job of getting to the basket and I can bring the extra defense they need for us to win.”
Thornton is a three star with an overall grade of 82.
