Florida continued to stockpile talent this recruiting cycle under head coach Will Muschamp, landing the nation’s No. 4 overall class and the No. 2 class in the Southeastern Conference. 247Sports, SECPressPass and Saturday Down South take a look at the effort in this video feature.
Notes
Early impact- The Gators enrolled seven mid-term and several should be able to step in and help in 2013. All eyes will be on five-star running back Kelvin Taylor (Belle Glade, Fla./Glades Day), the son of former Florida great Fred Taylor, to see if he can claim the starting running back position. Impact players at linebacker already on campus include five-star Alex Anzalone (Reading, Pa./Wyomissing) and Daniel McMillian (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast). A third early enroll linebacker, Matt Rolin (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods), is recovering from knee surgery. Four-star receiver Demarcus Robinson (Fort Valley, Ga./Peach County) already is on campus and hails from the same high school as former Gator great Jacquez Green. JUCO transfer Darious Cummings (East Mississippi C.C.) started his career at Florida State and should jump in the mix on the interior.
First-year potential- It’s hard to imagine the nation’s top cornerback prospect Vernon Hargreaves III (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) not seeing the field in 2013. He’s got excellent natural instincts and tremendous speed. JUCO defensive tackle Jarran Reed, also from East Mississippi, is a native North Carolinian who can jump in the mix quickly as well. It would not surprise if four-star receiver Alvin Bailey (Seffner, Fla./Armwood) worked his way into the receiver rotation. He’s an excellent route runner with great hands.
Nuts and Bolts- Of the 29 members in this recruiting class, 24 are from Florida or Georgia with 18 coming from the Sunshine State (this counts Cummings, who played high school football in Titusville, Fla.). The Gators also worked the eastern seaboard efficiently landing Anzalone and Rolin. Florida also was efficient in the flip category as seven prospects were previously committed to other programs, including Anzalone (Notre Dame), Rolin (South Carolina), Robinson (Clemson), Reed (Ole Miss), JUCO offensive tackle Trenton Brown (Georgia), linebacker Jarrad Davis (Auburn) and punter Johnny Townsend (Ohio State).
