Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech defensive tackle Kenton Gibbs committed to Illinois on Tuesday,
The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Gibbs chose Illinois over offers from Indiana, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Toledo.
Gibbs visited Illinois during the spring and his bond with the coaching staff sealed the deal.
"Coach (Keith) Gilmore, we have a good relationship," Gibbs said. "It seems like every time I hear about him, whether it's another player or another school or another coach, they always say good things about him."
Gibbs has had 31 sacks the last two seasons, and is the ninth commit for the Illini in the class of 2013.
"They run the same defense we do so I'd be running the same thing they do," Gibbs said.
Gibbs still plans to camp at Michigan, Michigan State, LSU, Wisconsin and Alabama this summer.
"This is a soft verbal," he said. "I don' t know for a fact if I'm stopping."
