Seton Hall prevails for Whitehead

In what could easily be called a convoluted recruitment, Seton Hall out dueled St. John's for local five-star recruit Isaiah Whitehead.

Isaiah Whitehead brings star power to Seton Hall.

At an afternoon press conference at Brooklyn (N.Y.) Lincoln High School, Whitehead announced his intentions to "take my talents to Seton Hall."

The 6-4, 195-pound shooting guard is a prolific scorer with a physical and aggressive game.

At one time Whitehead appeared a lock for his long time favorite Syracuse. The Orange, however, took a commitment from four-star guard Kaleb Joseph and the relationship between Syracuse and Whitehead dissolved.

Several other schools looked strong in Whitehead's recruitment at different intervals. Louisville, Minnesota, Indiana all appeared to have momentum during different periods.

But in the end Seton Hall came on in a flurry which seemed to prompt St. John's to jump in the mix. Neither school had made Whitehead much of a priority until the end of his recruitment.

As many as six schools were predicted on Whitehead's Crystal Ball before Seton Hall picked up a number of predictions a week ago and other schools dropped out of the Crystal Ball.

But then Tuesday when Whitehead scheduled his announcement for Thursday with a St. John's visit scheduled on Wednesday, St. John's went on a major run in the Crystal Ball taking over the majority of predictions.

After Whitehead's visit to St. John's on Wednesday, however, the tide turned back to Seton Hall.

Nonetheless, Seton Hall finished with only 21% of the predictions in the Crystal Ball when it was locked at the end of Wednesday.

Whitehead's high school coach Tiny Morton is expected to follow Whitehead to Seton Hall as a member of the coaching staff.

Whitehead, the No. 17 ranked prospect in the 247Composite, joins four-star big man Angel Delgado, three-star guard Khadeen Carrington and three-star forward Ismael Sanogo in Seton Hall's 2014 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 4 nationally in the 247Composite team rankings and is No. 1 in the Big East.
