California lands top target

Bird has the total package.

The California Golden Bears landed their first commitment in the 2013 class and was it ever a big one.

Following in the footsteps of his father who played basketball at California, Jabari Bird of Richmond (Calif.) Salesian High School announced his commitment to California today.

A 6-6, 190-pound wing with a strong all around game, Bird was also considering Colorado, Oregon and Washington down the stretch. But after his official visit to California over the past weekend, Bird cancelled his official visits with those three other schools and ended his recruitment.

Bird, who is ranked No. 21 by 247Sports, will now try to reel in other top ranked recruits such as Aaron Gordon and Marcus Lee to California.

The Industry generated 247Composite ranking registers Bird at No. 17.
