Defensive end Shakir Soto (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G A R Memorial) is a Northeastern Pennsylvania prospect who while still waiting for his first verbal scholarship offer, will eventually have a list of options in the double digits.
On Sunday at the Philadelphia Nike Sparq Combine, Soto measured in at 6-foot-3, 229 pounds and ran an impressive 4.4 second short shuttle. Combine that with an outstanding junior season where he racked up 114 tackles (15 for loss) and nine sacks and earned consensus all-state honors, and the offers are sure to flow in soon.
“I am getting attention from a lot of schools,” he said. “Some of them I like are Penn State, Rutgers, Miami (Fla.) and Syracuse.”
Soto added that he’s been invited to junior days at Boston College and Pittsburgh, among others. He also attended two Penn State home football games this past fall.
Academics will be important when he goes to pick a school.
“School is first for me,” he said. “Then, I will look at the football program and the overall environment of the school.”
