Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove offensive tackle Skylar Lacy committed to Louisville on Wednesday during a visit to the Cardinals campus.
The 6-foot-8, 290-pound Lacy chose the Cardinals over offers from Cincinnati, Ball State and Western Michigan, and interest from the likes of Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and Wisconsin.
“Just the bond I think I have with the coaches and the players,” Lacy said, adding that he’s been building a friendship with Louisville class of 2012 offensive tackle commit DeAndre Herron and class of 2013 quarterback pledge Kyle Bolin.
“I talk to DeAndre probably more than I talk to most of my friends, and I talk to Kyle once in a while. The fact I’ll be able to go there and feel 100 percent trust with my coaches and I already have a bond with a couple of my future teammates did it for me.”
Lacy is the eighth commit for Louisville coach Charlie Strong in the class of 2013. He also visited twice during the spring, including for the spring game.
“They have diehard fans,” Lacy said. “They’re moving to the Big 12. Their 2011 class was the best class Louisville has ever had and that was Charlie Strong’s first year. The 2012 class is solid. The 2013 class is shaping up nice. Louisville is a place I think I can go and help bring them up to a national powerhouse and championship contender.”
