The nation’s top offensive line prospect, tackle Laremy Tunsil (Lake City, Fla./Columbia), signed with Ole Miss over Georgia and Alabama today.
Scouting Report from Gerry Hamilton
Tunsil is the easily the top tackle prospect in the 2013 class. While we don’t believe he is on the level of Cyrus Kouandjio in the 2011 class, the 6-foot-6, 295-pound Tunsil is arguably the best tackle prospect since that time. His initial step is quick, he is quick in pass set without over setting, has the needed reactionary and body quickness to play on the edge, has an impressive initial punch and plays with an impressive motor and is an elite prospect in space due to the body quickness and lateral agility. While he attacks the run game with physicality, it doesn’t always show against the smaller lineman he goes up against at the high school level. Continuing to add lower body strength is a key at the next level and beyond.
Commitment Impact from JC Shurburtt
Of all the recruiting wins Hugh Freeze and his Ole Miss staff got this recruiting cycle, this one was by far the biggest and most surprising. Getting a player out of Florida that had been a strong lean to Georgia and Alabama for most of the process, that also happens to be the No. 1 offensive line prospect in the country is quite impressive. Tunsil will be a stalwart on the Rebels offensive line for years to come provided he develops as expected and avoids injury.
