It was another weekend loaded with talent in Southern California. Marcus Lovette showed why he is one of the top point guards in the 2015 Class.
Marcus Lovett has been a well known name on the circuit.
Player evaluation from Inglewood Paul Pierce Winter Classic and Redondo Sea Hawks Take Flight Challenge
Point Guard Marcus Lovett (San Gabriel Academy) - Lovett is a very special talent, showed again why I consider him one of the top Point Guards in the country in the 2015 class. He showed that he can score whenever he wants to and he also showed that he is becoming more of a past first point guard and he is able to trust his teammates and make the right basketball play.
Guard Damien Wilson (Taft) - Quick guard that can score. He also passes the ball well, coming off a torn ACL its going to be a while before he’s 100% but after watching him you can add his name to the list of players in the 2015 class in Southern California to watch.
Point Guard Kendall Small (Mayfair) - The stage gets bigger and so does he, He shows up and competes every time I watch him. Small is becoming one of the top point guards on the west coast, He has no problem scoring the ball or getting his teammates involved.
Guard Chris White (Lawndale) - The Junior from Lawndale shot the ball extremely well, still needs to work on his handles but his shot is improving every time I watch him.
Guard Jackie Davis (Rolling Hills Prep) - An unsigned senior Davis is still looking for the right fit for him at the next level. Shot the ball well from deep and showed off some moves to the basket, but he still needs to work on moving his feet on defense.
Wing Chris Sandifer (Taft) - The UTEP signee was filling the basket up, its going to be interesting to see how much of a leash Coach Floyd is going to give Sandifer when he gets down to El Paso.
Guard Khalil Bedart-Ghani (Loyola) - Athletic two guard that is tough to guard in transition and is a very good defender on the other side of the ball.
Shooting Guard Gary Chivichyan (Alemany) - One of the best shooters in the 2014 class on the west coast. Chivichyan was 7-for-11 from three-point land against Redondo Union. He also handles the ball well and has a nice body at 6-foot-4.
Wing Isaiah Bailey (Compton) - The Fresno St signee, showed off his get to the basket ability all night long against a strong Loyola team. Bailey also showed off some nice passes to find his teammates. Will be a great fit for Fresno St.
Point Guard Joe Covarrubias (Cantwell Sacred Heart) - Nice body at 6-foot-2 and understands how to run a team. He also uses his body very well in the lane to either create for his teammates or to score the basket.
Point Guard Terrell Gomez (Inglewood) - The Sophomore Point Guard always puts on a show when I go to watch him, one of the most exciting players on the west coast. Gomez understands how to handle pressure from any angle and also can knock down the three balls.
Guard Jonah Matthews (Santa Monica) - The younger brother to Cal Freshman (Jordan Matthews), Jonah is starting to move out the shadows of his older brother and into his own. Matthews has very high basketball IQ, he also has a very nice skill set, can knock down a jumper and handles the ball well. Will be interesting to see if he develops into a wing or moves over to point guard spot at the next level.
Point Guard Elishja Duplechan (Sheldon) - This freshman Point Guard can score, he also can handle the rock well. Sometimes on the offensive end he tried to do too much, but you can tell he will be a solid point guard in high school and possibly at the next level.
Shooting Guard Matthew Mitchell (Riverside King) - Only a freshman Mitchell showed off flashes of what I been hearing about, he showed off a nice outside jumper and his motor is always going which is great to see from a freshman.
