Martin talks Cal commitment

Bakersfield (Calif.) Stockdale running back D.J. Martin jr. decided tonight to make a verbal commitment. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound back committed to Cal over offers from Alabama, USC and Tennessee among others.

On Friday Cal picked up their first commitment from quarterback Jared Goff, Martin has now doubled that total.

"It feels great to make that commitment," Martin said. "The coaches were just straight forward with me and I love the tradition of great backs they have there. I've been a Cal fan for as long as I can remember."

Despite the verbal commitment, Martin said he still intends to take all five alotted official visits.

"I'm still going to take my visits later this Fall," he said. "I will visit Alabama, USC, Georgia Tech and some others. I'll make my final, firm decision closer to signing day."

Martin is the No. 113 ranked player in the country. He is the No. 9 player in the state of California.
