Frankfort (Ill.) Lincoln-Way East center Nick Allegretti committed to Illinois on Monday, giving the Illini their second pledge in the class-of-2014, and the second verbal of the evening.
The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Allegretti joins Dayton (Ohio) Centerville defensive tackle Tito Odenigbo, who made the call earlier in the night.
Allegretti is fresh off a four-day visit to Champaign, where he stayed and attended classes with his older brother who is a regular student at Illinois.
“I love the school,” Allegretti said. “I was there this past weekend for four days. Went to class for four days. I enjoyed everything about the school.”
Allegretti chose Illinois over offers from Cincinnati, Northern Illinois and Toledo, and high interest from Indiana.
“I narrowed it down to Illinois and Indiana,” he said. “My brother is at Illinois. Illinois is closer. Academically, Illinois fits me better than any other school. I loved the coaches. The philosophy they have, I believe in them and am very excited.”
Allegretti is ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 8 center. He was recruited by Illini assistant coach Mike Ward.
