Four-star defensive lineman Nifae Lealao (Sacramento, Calif./Capital Christian) committed to Vanderbilt on Wednesday at an announcement ceremony at his high school.
Lealao is the No. 103 overall prospect in the country for the 2014 recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He also ranks as the No. 6 strongside defensive end and the No. 9 player in the state of California.
Lealao chose Vanderbilt after decommitting from Stanford in January. His relationship with former Stanford defensive coordinator and current Vandy head coach Derek Mason, former Stanford staffer and current Vandy DL coach Vavae Tata as well as new Vandy defensive coordinator and former Stanford LB coach Kevin Kotulski all played a large role in his decision.
Lealao visited Nashville officially over the last weekend in January to seal the deal. His commitment moves Vanderbilt up to No. 56 in the 247Sports team rankings. The Commodores were ranked 84th on Sunday morning but have added a slew of commitments since then.
Tata was Lealao’s lead recruiter for the Commodores.
