An exciting weekend is on tap at Ohio State this as the Buckeyes look to close strong in the class-of-2013 and begin laying the groundwork towards what could possibly be the nation’s top haul in 2014.
Ohio State is in a good position to pluck Top247 2013 WR away from the hometown school Louisville.
247Sports takes a look at the top prospects visiting Columbus for Ohio State’s rivalry game against Michigan on Saturday.
Things To Keep An Eye On
With 17 commitments, Ohio State currently sits at No. 5 in the 247Composite national team rankings. Michigan leads the way in the Big Ten and ranks No. 4 in the country.
The general consensus is Louisville leads for the 6-foot-2, 180-pound Quick, but the local kid out of Trinity High really enjoyed his previous two visits to Columbus, including the Nebraska game earlier in the fall. Quick is a dynamic playmaker that sees a good fit for himself in the Ohio State offense. The Buckeyes may actually be in front heading into the weekend.
Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett linebacker Trey Johnson is currently an Auburn commit, but the way things are shaping up it’s more likely he ends up playing in an Ohio State uniform on the next level. Florida and USC are two other schools still in the mix. Johnson keeps in touch with Urban Meyer once a week.
In-state seniors expected to eventually sign on the dotted line… Top247 receiver Shelton Gibson and four-star athlete Christopher Worley. Both have been Buckeyes leans since the beginning of the recruiting process.
Perhaps a switcheroo… Top100 linebacker Daniel McMillian is committed to Florida but said last week he wants to give Ohio State a chance. No better weekend for the Gators pledge out of Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast to be in Columbus to see all the bells and whistles.
The nation's top junior Da'Shawn Hand will check out Ohio State for the first time.
Massillon (Ohio) Washington Top247 cornerback/athlete Gareon Conley has been committed to Michigan since March but plans on being inside the Horseshoe on Saturday. Oregon is another program still in the mix for Conley.
Big-time juniors slated to be in town… None bigger than the nation’s consensus player overall, Da'Shawn Hand, a defensive end out of Woodbridge (Va.) High. Five-star running back Jalen Hurd of Hendersonville (Tenn.) Beech Senior will be getting his first look at Ohio State. Yet another five-star in linebacker Raekwon McMillan already has the Buckeyes as his leader. Joliet (Ill.) Plainfield South's Clifton Garrett is the country’s top outside linebacker according to the 247Composite and has Ohio State near the top of his list early in the process. Another Chicago area prospect the Buckeyes are in good shape with is De La Salle’s Top100 offensive tackle Jamarco Jones. Jones's teammate Top247 running back Mikale Wilbon has been in regular touch with the Buckeyes staff. The top in-state player according to the 247Composite is Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville’s explosive receiver/cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who has made a few trips to Ohio State this year and can be considered a Buckeyes lean. Four other in-state prospects holding an offer are Top247 receiver Thaddeus Snodgrass, offensive linemen Jimmy Byrne and Marcelys Jones and playmaking linebacker Kyle Berger. Top247 safety and Georgia commit Nick Glass has been trying to visit Ohio State since the summer.
Several other Top247 juniors without an offer expected to be on campus includes quarterbacks Drew Barker and Deshone Kizer, receivers Derek Kief and Dominique Booth offensive linemen Kyle Trout and Nick Richardson, defensive back Darius West and athlete Myles Autry.
