There's never a dull moment in recruiting. And the West is no exception.
Oregon snared another Texas prep this week in LB/DE Justin Hollins.
The conference kicked off the week last night with a Thursday night Halloween special featuring ASU and Washington State. However the Sun Devils went up early and never looked back in Pullman.
Here's a quick look around the Pac-12 at some of the news to make headlines this week.
The Ducks have a bye this week before the showdown next week with Stanford. That is one of the marquee match-ups in the college football landscape right now.
Despite the 'off week', the Ducks still managed to invade Texas with the pickup of LB/DE Justin Hollins of Martin. Hollins may not make national headlines as a three-star but this is a player Oregon offered early and coveted highly.
It's going to be a bit of a smaller class for Oregon in '14, but the quality will be there as the Ducks look to finish strong leading up to signing day. Some notables the Ducks look good for currently include Budda Baker, John Smith and Bryce Dixon among others.
Oregon also added a basketball commitment from 4-star center Michael Chandler this week.
Noel Mazzone has done well to earn an official visit from Scarbrough.
After a tough loss in Eugene last weekend UCLA looks to take the field against Colorado at home this week.
The headlining news here is the fact that UCLA will host Alabama commit Bo Scarbrough on an official visit this weekend. Credit offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone for putting the Bruins in a position to have a chance with the 4-star.
UCLA will also host Cal commit Jaleel Wadood and have a legit shot at turning the 4-star defensive back if things go well.
If that wasn't enough, the Bruins are hosting yet another commit this weekend. Oregon State offensive lineman commit Najee Toran will be in Westwood with family. Don't be surprised to see this one go well for UCLA and result in a pickup for the Bruins. Sources indicate Adrian Klemm is very high on his ability and toughness.
This could be the start of a very big weekend for UCLA who is looking to close incredibly strong. Currently at No. 51 in the recruiting rankings nationally, look for UCLA to close in the top 15 or better by signing day.
It was also a big week in Bruins' hoops with the surprise commitment of 5-star Kevin Looney and also Gyorgy Goloman earlier in the week.
Perhaps there is no hotter team in the Pac-12 than the SunDevils right now. ASU has added commitments from 4-star studs Jalen Harvey and Derik Calhoun recently.
Army All-American D.J. Calhoun is another big pickup for ASU.
Odds and Ends
FSU is headlining the recruiting topic this week with a massive list of top recruits coming in. That list will feature three key recruits from out West including 5-stars Joe MIxon and Adoree' Jackson. Another recruit of note for West coast recruitniks is Oregon 5-star commit Arrion Springs.
Washington State hosted a late 2014 target, defensive end Dimarya Mixon from Texas. Mixon was not able to enroll at Nebraska and has since been looking for a new home. He will enroll in January at the school of his choice.
Things are heating up for JUCO DL Claudeson Pelon. A recent visit to USC gave him a lot to think about but Washington holds a slight edge. He will enroll early so a decision won't be far off for him.
Getting anything on 4-star offensive lineman Casey Tucker is incredibly tough. But sources indicate Stanford is a serious threat in his recruitment. Don't be surprised if this one comes down to the wire, but the Cardinal could be the team to beat.
The USC coaching search has everyone intrigued. There's no question it is one of the highest profile jobs in the nation and will draw some huge names. Despite a flurry of names floating around, Kevin Sumlin, Chris Petersen and James Franklin seem like the realest options.
However if the Trojans can afford to go NFL (Timing issues) - Jack Del Rio remains a real and viable option for USC.
