Saturday’s 7-on-7 state qualifier at CyFalls High brought out some of the top prospects in the 2012 and 2013 classes in the Houston area.
Chandler will camp at LSU in July
With June camps nearing an end and July camp plans being made, the recruiting news was plentiful with the verbal offers continuing to roll in for prospects in the 2012 class.
Chandler to camp at LSU, Texas A&M
Tight end Justin Chandler (Kingwood/Park) continues to be one of the least talked about, but most talented players in the Lone Star state.
The reason is simple, Chandler moved to the Houston area from Jacksonville, Fla. before the start of the 2010 season and flew under the radar for the most part.
That all changed for the 6-foot-3, 235-pounder after Kingwood Park pulled a big upset over state ranked Brenham in the 4A playoffs along with college coaches making the rounds in December.
“I have offers from Arkansas, Texas Tech, California, Oklahoma State, Baylor, North Texas and UTEP,” Chandler said Saturday.
The offer list for the talented two-sport athlete could grow in July.
“I’ve been to camps at Baylor, Texas Tech and with UTEP. I’m going to LSU and probably Texas A&M in July,” he said.
Chandler, who has clocked an impressive 4.65 at summer camps, says he is taking things slow with the process until official visits begin.
Taylor is one of the top running backs in the 2013 class
“I don’t have a favorite right now since I have been to many campuses or on official visits. Cal has probably shown the most love though," he said.
Chandler impressed Saturday with his physical nature and ability to catch the ball with the arms extended on the move. He was constantly double teamed in games against Cypress Springs and The Woodlands.
He is playing AAU basketball with a team out of Jacksonville, Fla. this summer along with taking in a number of camps and competing in 7-on-7.
2013 RB has five offers
Running back Adam Taylor (Katy, Texas) is one of the top 2013 prospects in Texas. The 6-foot-0, 205-pound Taylor rushed for 1,563 yards and 19 touchdowns on 160 carries and college programs from around the country have more than taken notice.
“I still have the same offers,” Taylor said. “I have Colorado, Arkansas, Baylor, Northwestern and Illinois,”
Along with the five verbal’s, the talented runner is receiving serious attention from Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas A&M and LSU.
“I talked on the phone with LSU before school was out. They are showing a lot of interest," he said.
Taylor lists Texas as his childhood favorite. He is yet to attend any summer camps, but a July trip to LSU is not out of the question.
Haack has impressed on the summer camp circuit
Two more for Webb
Wide receiver Blake Webb (The Woodlands) entered the month of June with verbal offers from Boston College, Duke and Air Force, but the 6-foot-0, 183-pound speedster has already added two more to the list.
“Rice offered me two days ago,” Webb said on Saturday. “Minnesota was the day before that.”
Webb is hoping that impressive showings at camps in June will lead to more verbal offers.
“I’ve been to camps at TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Rice," he said.
Oklahoma State, Baylor, Northwestern and UCLA are showing the most interest of the schools that are yet to offer. Webb caught 900 yards in passes in 2010.
*Tight end Cody Small (Cypress/Cy Woods) has verbal offers from Rice, Wyoming and Air Force. The 6-foot-4, 237-pounder with 4.58 speed is also receiving serious interest from Purdue, Michigan State, Texas Tech, Northwestern and Arkansas. He will camp at Arkansas and Northwestern in July and has already attended camps with TCU, Texas A&M (June 5), Texas Tech (June 11), Rice, Houston, Oklahoma and Kansas State this month.
*2013 safety LaTravien Gee (Jersey Village) is not a well-known name at this point, but he has caught the eye of a number of college programs following his first team all-district selection in 2010. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound safety with long arms led the Falcons in tackles as a sophomore. He was invited to June camps at Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and Oklahoma State, but was unable to attend. He lists Texas as his favorite growing up. LSU and Oklahoma join Texas as school he has always liked.
*Quarterback Brooks Haack (Katy/Katy High) has verbal offers from Wyoming, North Texas and Louisiana-Lafayette with Texas State and UTEP likely to follow suit in the coming weeks. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder is also receiving serious interest from Kansas and Houston among others. Haack has camped with Kansas, Oklahoma State, Texas State and UTEP in June and will be at Texas Tech and Houston later this summer.
Louisville has offered Stehling
*2013 receiver Jacorey Warrick (Cypress/Cy Falls) said again on Saturday that Texas is his favorite followed by Baylor. The 6-foot-0, 175-pounder with 4.46-speed camped at Texas A&M and Texas in June. He worked out at receiver and corner at Texas’ June 12 camp.
*Linebacker Garrett Hope (The Woodlands) reports verbal offers from Texas State and UTEP along with interest from a number of other programs in the Southwest Region. He recently attended camps at Oklahoma and TCU. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder was a standout in May at the Nike NFTC on the campus of the University of Houston.
*Quarterback Tyler Stehling (Spring/Klein Collins) has verbal offers from Louisville, Colorado, Arizona, Louisiana-Lafayette and Western Michigan. The 6-foot-6, 190-pounder reports that Rice is close to offering and SMU is showing serious interest. He has camped at Rice, TCU, Oklahoma State, and SMU in June.
*2013 tight end prospect Jayme Taylor (The Woodlands) has camped with Rice, UTEP and TCU in June. He also plans to camp at Baylor in July. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder with 4.65-speed lists Ohio State as his childhood favorite having been born and raised in Ohio. He moved to the Houston area from Syracuse, New York two years ago.
*2013 quarterback Connor Feist (Langham Creek) has attended camps at Oklahoma, LSU, Texas A&M, Baylor, SMU and Texas Tech. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder was at Oklahoma and Texas A&M for the three-day camps and LSU for the one-day camp. He listed LSU as the most impressive visit thus far.
