NCAA president Mark Emmert had once mentioned the death penalty for Al Golden's Miami program, but that seems unlikely now
The NCAA's blunder is a get out of jail free card for the Canes. NCAA president Mark Emmert had no answer on a hastily arranged conference call Wednesday afternoon when asked about the possibility of a mistrial for Miami.
“It’s premature to answer that question,” Emmert said.
Great. I’ll answer it for you: This case is over. The fact that Emmert is even addressing that possibility tells you the NCAA already has crossed that bridge — and it’s a long way back.

Yeah right. All Miami has to do is say "if you sanction us, we will sue", and the NCAA will fold. The NCAA doesn't want to have another lawsuit to deal with and the prospect of going to "discovery". At worst, I expect the NCAA to accept Miami's 2 year self-impossed bowl ban as time served and to take a mere 3-5 scholarships away per year for 3 years.
