Indianapolis (Ind.) Warren Central defensive tackle Darnell Smith visited Ball State on Friday and left the nearby Muncie campus to go home and talk things over with his mother.
On Saturday, the 6-foot, 257-pound Smith became a Cardinal.
"I like the way (defensive line) Coach (Chad) Wilt coaches," Smith said. "It's also close to home so my family can come watch my games."
As a junior, Smith had roughly 30 tackles and two sacks, and is part of a Warren Central defense that currently has eight players holding Division-I offers, with that number expected to grow by the fall.
