Vault visited Northwestern last weekend.
Gaithersburg (Md.) High running back Solomon Vault announced his verbal to Northwestern on Thursday.
Ranked by the 247Composite as the nation's No. 29 all-purpose back, the 5-foot-9, 188-pound Vault chose head coach Pat Fitzgerald and the Wildcats over the likes of Minnesota, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Purdue and Tennessee.
"Chance to receive an elite education and play Big Ten football for Coach Fitz and his staff," Vault said.
The fifth commit for Northwestern in the class-of-2014, Vault was recruited by Bob Heffner to play slot receiver for the Wildcats, but he also has the skill-set to play tailback.
Vault visited the Evanston campus last weekend. As a junior, he rushed for 1,232 yards and 20 touchdowns.
