Brown visited Illinois for the Penn State game and will be back in Champaign this weekend.
De Kalb (Ill.) High running back Dre Brown figures to be one of the Lincoln State’s top prospects in the class-of-2015 and on Tuesday Illinois got the ball rolling with an offer.
“It’s surreal,” Brown stated. “It’s crazy.
“I’ve always liked them. To get my first offer from the home-state school where all my family is at is crazy.”
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Brown camped with Illinois this summer and attended the Penn State game earlier this fall. He’ll return to the Illini campus this weekend for the game against Minnesota.
“I like their coaches a lot,” Brown said. “I liked the spread offense they run and just the campus is awesome too.”
Brown emerged as a prospect to watch at the Illinois Nike Football Training Camp in Champaign during the summer. As a freshman he only played in three games because of a broken collarbone but still managed to rush for over 400 yards and four touchdowns. This past fall he went for 750 yards and nine touchdowns in eight games.
Northern Illinois is also showing early interest in Brown. No question there will be many more schools down the road.
