In one of the more anticipated National Signing Day announcements, Southfield (Mich.) High five-star defensive lineman Malik McDowell gave his commitment to Michigan State, choosing the Spartans over Florida State, Michigan and Ohio State on Wednesday morning.
This one went down to the wire, with McDowell favoring Michigan State for months and his parents voicing their opinion that they wanted him elsewhere.
The 6-foot-7, 290-pound McDowell is ranked by the 247Sports Composite Ratings as the nation’s No. 32 prospect overall. He also ranks as the No. 3 strong-side defensive end and the top prospect overall in the state of Michigan.
Recruited by Terry Samuel and Ron Burton, McDowell’s commitment moves Michigan State up to No. 25 in the 247Sports national team recruiting rankings.
