The Future247 for 2013 release

The release of the Future247 for the class of 2013 is here. With the class of 2012 already moving towards completion, college coaches are beginning to look to the class of 2013 and the Future247 has many of the names that will begin to surface as top targets for the next cycle.

Brice Ramsey

Brice Ramsey is one of four Georgia commitments in the Future247.

Listed by state, the 247 names comprising the list is led by 34 names out of the state of Texas, and 33 names each out of Florida and California. Ohio and Georgia both look strong in the class of 2013 with 21 prospects on the list from each.

Virginia should have a banner year for talent in both 2013 and 2014 and with 11 prospects out of the state on the Future247, the Old Diminion State is sixth in overall numbers. Alabama and Louisiana follow with ten prospects each.

Already several schools have made a big splash in the 2013 class, most notably Georgia, Alabama and Texas A&M. The Bulldogs lead the way with four commitments already out of the Future247 led by one of eight early five-stars, Derrick Henry out of Yulee (Fla.) High School. Henry is joined by quarterback Brice Ramsey, wide receiver Tramel Terry and safety Tray Matthews.

Texas A&M has snagged three in-state prospects that found their way onto the release including athlete Ty Slanina, wide receiver Jamar Gibson and quarterback Kohl Stewart.

Alabama is the only other program with at least three commitments on the list with tight end O’Terrius Howard, offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman and early five-star linebacker Reuben Foster.

Deep quarterback year

Based on early returns, there could be plenty of quarterbacks to choose from in the class of 2013. The Future247 features 32 dual-threat or pro-style quarterbacks. While many of those prospects will likely fall out of the 247, it remains a drastic contrast to the previous few classes.

In the class of 2012, only 13 quarterbacks made the cut in the most recent Top247 update. There were only 14 quarterbacks in the final update of the Top247 for the class of 2011. Quarterback is a position that allows plenty of opportunity to evaluate and quarterbacks often emerge earlier than many other positions, by that start contrast in numbers still bodes well for a strong year for passers in 2013.

Just-missed five-stars

At such an early stage in the process, five-stars were handed out very sparingly. With eight prospects earning the initial five-star nod, there were plenty that were heavily discussed that just missed the cut.

Perhaps the closes prospect to landing on the list was Fort Worth (Texas) Arlington Heights offensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson. Though his recruitment has yet to really take off, his size and athleticism blend has wowed the 247Sports staff has put him near the top of numerous college radars.

Also on the offensive line, Midwest prospects Ethan Pocic and Steven Elmer both were under heavy consideration. Two massive linemen with a run-blocker’s mentality, Pocic and Elmer are both likely to have their choice of schools.
