Things happening for Bosco junior

RAMSEY, N.J. – It’s a quarterback’s worst nightmare.

Alquadin Muhammad at Don Bosco Prep

Muhammad is a two-year varsity starter for national powerhouse Don Bosco Prep.

Lining up against Don Bosco Prep on Friday night, the Paramus Catholic signal-caller scans the line of scrimmage and sees five-star senior defensive lineman Darius Hamilton on one side, and junior Alquadin Muhammad ready to wreak havoc on the other.

Both Hamilton and Muhammad lived in the Paladins backfield all evening in helping lead the Ironmen, the top-ranked team nationally by Sports Illustrated, to a 45-0 victory this past Friday night.

Hamilton holds offers from just about every top program in the country, and the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Muhammad appears to be headed down the same path. Boston College, Colorado and Rutgers have already offered, with mail arriving from schools coast to coast including Florida and South Carolina.

“If you were to draw up the perfect five-technique or nine-technique, he’s the guy,” Don Bosco coach Greg Toal said. “He’s 6-4, 230, doesn’t have an ounce of fat on him. He looks like the perfect five technique.”

Since taking over the program in 1999, Toal told 247Sports that Hamilton was one of his best leaders ever. Muhammad has attached himself to Hamilton’s methods.

“Alquadin is very serious about football,” Toal said. “He gives it his best. He goes out there and gives you a blue-collar guy that gives you a day’s work.”

Where Muhammad works in the future is a long ways from being decided.

“I’m going to wait to commit,” Muhammad said. “I’m not going to verbally commit early. I’m going to go through the whole process.

“I’m looking for a good graduation rate and a good academic program. I’m not all about sports. I want to go far with my academics and get a degree. I like criminal justice.”

A two-year varsity starter for the Ironmen, Muhammad is starting to build a relationship with each program that has offered him, but hasn’t done much with recruiting. He camped at Boston College during the summer.

“I got MVP out there and it was great,” Muhammad said. “I don’t know too much about the school, but from what I see it’s a great program. Their coaches love me and I keep in touch.”

Muhammad attended Colorado’s spring game.

“It’s a family,” he said. “They have good relationships. They work hard. I watched them lift weights, I watched them run, I watched them condition, it’s a great program.”

This fall, Muhammad has made it to two Rutgers games including this past Saturday’s contest against West Virginia.

“I like Rutgers because it’s close to home,” Muhammad said. “I can get there easily and my family can come see me play.”

Muhammad reports no favorites early in the process and says he’d love an opportunity to consider Texas.
