Class of 2014 Top247 offensive tackle prospect Derek Allen (Edison, N.J.) feels like he is getting close on his first scholarship offer. Big East programs are showing the most interest at present.
Derek Allen will visit Penn State this weekend unofficially.
“The two programs showing the most interest so far are Pitt and Temple,” Allen said. “I talk to coaches from those two schools.”
The 6-foot-6, 262-pounder, who also plays defensive end and defensive tackle, also is getting attention from in-state Rutgers. In fact, he’s visited the Scarlet Knights twice- once for their home game with Howard on Sept. 8 and on Oct. 6 for the Connecticut game.
"I really liked the way they stress both education and football at Rutgers," Allen said. “I am going to Penn State (this weekend) and I also plan on attending a Pitt and Temple game later this year."
Allen talked about his feelings about playing defense.
“I currently play nose guard for my high school team because of my size, but I think at the next level I would play defensive end,” Allen said. “I believe I would make an impact there because of my size and my long arms.”
Allen also is interested in Oregon, Georgia, Florida State and a host of others.
Allen was an All-Middlesex (N.J.) County selection as a sophomore. He currently is ranked as the nation’s No. 147 overall prospect in the Class of 2014 Top247, the nation’s No. 16 offensive tackle prospect and the No. 6 overall prospect in the state of New Jersey. He has a numerical rating of 92, which equates to a four-star prospect.
