Katy (Texas) Mayde Creek does not see as many college recruiters through its halls as some of its neighbors but the Rams have one of the top sleepers in the Houston area this year.
Troy McCormick has been offered by Duke and Utah so far.
Senior running back Troy McCormick has been putting together a big season for Mayde Creek and the 5-foot-9.5, 165-pound all-purpose standout has picked up a pair of BCS offers to date.
“I have offers from Utah, Duke and [Houston Baptist],” McCormick said. “Duke offered me last year and then Utah offered me about a month ago. It came as a big surprise (when Utah offered). My coach told me to call them so I did and they offered me. It was a big shock.
“I’ve talked to coach (Morgan) Scalley from Utah pretty regularly since they offered. He’s a really cool coach. Duke has been keeping up with my grades and everything since they’re a really good academic school.”
Another program could be on the verge of adding to McCormick’s offer total as well.
“I’m getting a lot of stuff from other schools too,” he said. “Utah State is the one that’s probably sending me the most stuff. They could offer too.”
McCormick has not set up any official visits yet and he remains open to all suitors. He does have some criteria he is looking for in a program though.
“Not yet,” he said of favorites. “I’m still looking at everyone. I like the Pac-12 and SEC though. I’ve always been told to go to whatever school fits me the best. I just want to play running back and go to a school that gets me the ball in space. I also want to win, of course.
“I think I’m a balanced back. I’m fast but there’s always stuff I can improve on. I need to get bigger but I think I’m still a between-the-tackles guy if you need me to be. Most of my yards this year have been between the tackles.”
So far this season McCormick has run for 1,374 yards and 14 touchdowns on 164 carries. He has rushed for over 200 yards in three separate games.
