After taking an unofficial visit to Dallas last weekend, three-star quarterback Tyler Harris (Blackshear, Ga./Pierce Co.) decided he was ready to pull the trigger on his college decision.
“I committed to SMU,” Harris said.
Considered to have one of the strongest arms of any prospect in the 2014 recruiting cycle, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound signal caller will play for one of the most quarterback-friendly schemes in the country under Mustangs head coach June Jones. That was one of many factors that led to Harris picking SMU.
“I just felt like I would have an opportunity to play as a freshman and the coaches were laid back and easy to get along with,” Harris said. “SMU also has a top of the line education and their offense is very similar to the one I run now.”
As a junior, Harris threw for 2,466 yards and 29 touchdowns, while also rushing for three touchdowns. Harris is commitment No. 13 for Southern Methodist and is the highest rated to date in the 2014 class at 83 (247Sports).
