As national signing day draws closer for the class of 2013, we a look at the latest and makes predictions on the 12 five-star prospects still in play with three official visit weekends remaining.
The nation's top prospect, defensive end Robert Nkemdiche, is likely Ole Miss-bound to play with his older brother.
Robert Nkemdiche, SDE, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson
The prospect – No. 1 in the 2013 Top247
The scoop- News broke on Tuesday that the 6-foot-4, 285-pound Nkemdiche would be making an official visit to Florida this weekend. While the Gators and LSU continue to receive mention, with Florida’s being more recent, it’s the following weekend’s visit to Ole Miss that has the recruiting worlds attention. The Rebels have been the favorite for a few months, and there is no reason to think anything has or will change. Prediction – Ole Miss
Laremy Tunsil, OT, Lake City (Fla.) Columbia
The prospect – No. 1 offensive line prospect in the class.
The scoop- The 6-foot-6, 295-pound Tunsil visited Alabama over the weekend and the national champions have the momentum entering the rest of the week. This weekend, the U.S. Army All-American will be in Athens for his official visit to Georgia, who has been long thought to be the favorite behind the scenes. While visits remain scheduled to Ole Miss Jan. 25 and Florida State Feb. 1, expect the decision to come down to the two programs that have been long favored unless Seminoles assistant Jeremy Pruitt can pull the late upset. Prediction – Georgia
Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, Auburn (Calif.) Placer
The prospect – No. 1 defensive tackle prospect in the class.
Five-star linebacker Matthew Thomas is a huge target for both Florida State and Miami (Fla.).
The scoop- The 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive tackle prospect made waves Dec. 27 when he officially de-committed from USC after visiting UCLA (Nov. 23) and Washington (Dec. 14). Since re-opening his recruitment, Notre Dame has become the team to beat according to many, but this recruitment is far from over. Vanderdoes will be making an official visit to USC this weekend followed by trips to Notre Dame Jan. 25 and Alabama Feb. 2. Prediction – USC
Montravius Adams, DT, Vienna (Ga.) Dooly County
The prospect – No. 10 in the Top247
The scoop- Adams is coming off a visit to Clemson with some thinking the Tigers are the team to beat. While Clemson certainly impressed the 6-foot-3, 310-pounder, Alabama will take their shot this weekend with Georgia slated for Jan. 25. Adams, who also visited Florida Jan. 4, has one official visit left out there for the last weekend, Feb. 2, with Auburn remaining a possibility. Prediction – Clemson
Matthew Thomas, OLB, Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington
The prospect – No. 14 in the Top247
The scoop- The 6-foot-3, 210-pound uber athletic Thomas visited Alabama last weekend and will head to USC this weekend. While both of those are programs the Under Armour All-America linebacker has mentioned over time, it’s still believed that his choice will ultimately come from Miami and Florida State, where he will visit Jan. 25. If there is an out of state program that could pull the upset, watch out for Georgia the weekend of Feb. 2. Prediction – Florida State
Reuben Foster, ILB, Auburn (Al.)
Miami could get a huge recruiting re-victory if it can get the top back in the country, Alex Collins, to re-commit and sign.
The prospect – No. 15 in the Top247
The scoop- The former Alabama and Auburn commitment will be back on campus in Tuscaloosa this weekend for an official visit after a visit to Washington last weekend. Following Alabama, the 6-foot-1, 235-pound hard-hitting linebacker will trip to Georgia. With that being said, Auburn still has the inside track, and especially considering the time that Auburn has had to build a strong relationship with Foster’s mother. Prediction – Auburn
Alex Collins, RB, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) South Plantation
The prospect – No. 17 in the Top247
The scoop- Collins has long been thought to end up staying in state. Before changes on the Florida State coaching staff (Eddie Gran), the 5-foot-11, 204-pound explosive runner was thought to be leaning to the Seminoles with Miami still very much in the picture. Fast forward a few weeks, and many believe the Hurricanes will end up signing Collins, but Al Golden and staff will have to fight off Arkansas, where Collins will visit Jan. 25 following his trip to Coral Gables this weekend. Prediction – Miami
Carl Lawson, WDE, Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton
The prospect – No. 24 in the Top247
The scoop- While the 6-foot-2, 245-pound Lawson remains a “soft” commitment to Auburn, his recruitment is far from a certainty. Last weekend, the Atlanta area prospect made the short trip to Clemson, and will be at Tennessee this weekend. Following the trip to Tennessee will be official visits to North Carolina Jan. 25 and Auburn Feb. 1 before announcing a final decision on signing day. Another program that is still in contention is surging Ole Miss. Lawson’s recruitment has more questions than answers at this point with three visit weekends remaining. Prediction – Tennessee
In the end, don't expect A'Shawn Robinson to travel too far from momma.
Tony Conner, S, Batesville (Ms.) South Panola
The prospect – No. 25 in the Top247
The scoop- While Conner continues to list several schools he is considering, this recruitment has been close to hometown Ole Miss vs. Alabama for months. Last weekend, the 6-foot-1.5, 203-pounder make his official visit to Alabama, and will trip to Auburn this weekend before likely making an official visit to Ole Miss Jan. 25. While some of these predictions are very difficult, Conner’s recruitment seems to be pretty straight forward. Prediction – Ole Miss
A’Shawn Robinson, OL/DL, Fort Worth (Texas) Arlington Heights
The prospect – No. 26 in the Top247
The scoop- The 6-foot-5, 302-pound Texas commitment keeps saying he is 100% committed to Mack Brown and staff, but also continues the official visit process. After a Sep. 21 trip to Florida State and a Dec. 7 weekend at Southern California, Robinson will be at Alabama this weekend for a third official visit. Following the trip to Tuscaloosa, Robinson will head to Austin for a Jan. 25 visit, which is his last scheduled official. While Robinson has always liked Southern California and has a real interest in Alabama, he remains expected to stay close to his mother. Prediction – Texas
Elijah Daniel, WDE, Avon (In.)
The prospect – No. 27 in the Top247
The scoop- The recruitment of the 6-foot-3, 249-pound Daniel has the look of an Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State battle with Florida still hanging around if they make a final push. The Under Armour All-America has already visited both Ole Miss and Mississippi State in November, and will have also had in-home visits with both head coaches following Wednesday nights visit from Rebels head coach Hugh Freeze. Unless Marshall, where Daniel’s brother plays, pulls the upset, or Florida makes a late push, we are going with the current momentum. Prediction – Ole Miss
Laquon Treadwell, WR, Crete (Il.) Crete-Monee
The prospect – No. 28 in the Top247
The scoop- Like Daniel, Treadwell is a Midwest prospect that looks like he is headed for SEC country. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder has already made visits to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State (Jan. 11) and will trip to Oxford on Nov. 30. At ths point, it would be a surprise of the one time heavy Michigan lean ends up anywhere other than Ole Miss. Treadwell announces his decision Thursday. Prediction – Ole Miss
Vonn Bell, S/CB, Rossville (Ga.) Ridgeland
The prospect – No. 29 in the Top247
The scoop- The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Bell is one of the more intriguing recruitments left on the board. While Bell has been a lean to both Ohio State and Alabama during the process, it’s looking more and more like Alabama is the team to beat unless Tennessee can pull the late upset. The Under Armour All-America has made an official visit to Ohio State, Jan. 11, and will be at Alabama this weekend with the Volunteers scheduled for Jan. 25. Prediction – Alabama
