Predicting the Five Stars II

As national signing day draws closer for the class of 2013, 11 five-star prospects remain in play. In the last week, Ole Miss has started its march to a possible top 5 class landing five-star prospects Elijah Daniel (Avon, Ind.) and Laquon Treadwell (Crete, Ill./Crete-Monee).

Laremy Tunsil

Georgia is the team to beat for five-star offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil.

With just two official weekends remaining, here is a look at this week's predictions.

Robert Nkemdiche, SDE, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson

The prospect – No. 1 in the 2013 Top247
The scoop- The 6-foot-4, 285-pound Nkemdiche made an official visit to Florida last weekend and will trip to the heavy favorite Ole Miss this weekend and is currently scheduled to visit LSU on Feb. 1. While other programs have been mentioned in recent weeks and months, this recruitment is all Rebels, and that is not expected to change.
Prediction – Ole Miss

Laremy Tunsil, OT, Lake City (Fla.) Columbia

The prospect – No. 1 offensive line prospect in the class.
The scoop- The 6-foot-6, 295-pound Tunsil visited Georgia over the weekend following a trip to Alabama Jan. 11. This weekend, the U.S. Army All-American will be in Oxford for his official visit to Ole Miss, who is looking to play the spoiler. Florida State remains scheduled for Feb. 1, with Seminoles assistant Jeremy Pruitt being the key in Tunsil's recruitment. While Ole Miss and Florida State are set to receive visits, this one looks like a Georgia-Alabama battle that will come down to the wire.
Prediction – Georgia

Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, Auburn (Calif.) Placer

The prospect – No. 1 defensive tackle prospect in the class.
The scoop - The 6-foot-2, 310-pound Vanderdoes was in the news this week following his official visit to USC, but it was more because the Trojans extended a basketball scholarship to the U.S. Army All-American's younger sister. This weekend, Notre Dame will get take their shot with the dominant defensive tackle followed by Alabama Feb. 1. While programs certainly believe they have a legitimate shot at Vanderdoes, and they do with Washington emerging as the sleeper, the Trojans remain the pick here. Prediction – USC

Montravius Adams, DT, Vienna (Ga.) Dooly County

Matthew Thomas

The prospect – No. 10 in the Top247
The scoop - Adams is coming off a visits to Clemson and Alabama with some thinking the Tigers remain team to beat. While Clemson certainly impressed the 6-foot-3, 310-pounder, in-state power Georgia will take their shot this weekend with a number of big time prospects on the visit list. Adams, who also visited Florida Jan. 4, has one official visit left out there for the last weekend, Feb. 2, with Auburn remaining a possibility. Prediction – Clemson

Matthew Thomas, OLB, Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington

The prospect – No. 14 in the Top247
The scoop - The 6-foot-3, 210-pound uber athletic Thomas has visited Alabama and USC the last two weekends. While both of those are programs the Under Armour All-America linebacker has mentioned over time, it’s still believed that his choice will ultimately come from Miami (currently on a visit) and Florida State, where he will visit Jan. 25. If there is an out of state program that could pull the upset, it remains the Georgia Bulldogs, who are scheduled to play host to the long-armed linebacker the weekend of Feb. 2. Prediction – Miami

Reuben Foster, ILB, Auburn (Al.)

The prospect – No. 15 in the Top247
The scoop - The former Alabama and Auburn commitment was back on campus in Tuscaloosa last weekend, and will be in Athens to visit Georgia this weekend in what will be a sec on star studded visit weekend in a row for the Under Armour All-America linebacker. On the weekend of Feb. 1, Foster will make the short trip to Auburn, who remains the pick. Prediction – Auburn

Alex Collins, RB, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) South Plantation

The prospect – No. 17 in the Top247
The scoop - Collins has long been thought to end up staying in state. Before changes on the Florida State coaching staff (Eddie Gran), the 5-foot-11, 204-pound explosive runner was thought to be leaning to the Seminoles with Miami still very much in the picture. Fast forward a few weeks, and many believe the Hurricanes will end up signing Collins, and after last weekends official to Coral Gables, the Hurricanes remain the pick due in large part to Collins mother. Arkansas is set to take their swing this weekend. Prediction - Miami

Carl Lawson, WDE, Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton

The prospect – No. 24 in the Top247
The scoop - While the 6-foot-2, 245-pound Lawson remains a “soft” commitment to Auburn, his recruitment is far from a certainty. Last weekend, the Atlanta area prospect visited Tennessee a week after tripping to Clemson. This weekend, the edge rush prospect will travel to Chapel Hill to take a closer look at North Carolina before making a final visit to Auburn the weekend of Feb. 1. Prediction – Tennessee

Tony Conner, S, Batesville (Ms.) South Panola

The prospect – No. 25 in the Top247
The scoop - While Conner continues to list several schools he is considering, this recruitment has been close to hometown Ole Miss vs. Alabama for months. While the 6-foot-1.5, 203-pound instinctive safety visited Alabama Jan. 11, this weekends trip to nearby Oxford figures to be a deal closer for Hugh Freeze and staff. Prediction – Ole Miss

A’Shawn Robinson, OL/DL, Fort Worth (Texas) Arlington Heights

The prospect – No. 26 in the Top247
The scoop - The 6-foot-5, 302-pound Texas commitment keeps saying he is 100% committed to Mack Brown and staff, but also went through the official visit process with trips to Florida State, USC and Alabama last weekend. This weekend, the two-way lineman with a huge upside will be back in Austin for his official visit to Texas, where he is expected to sign February 6. Prediction – Texas

Vonn Bell, S/CB, Rossville (Ga.) Ridgeland

The prospect – No. 29 in the Top247
The scoop- The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Bell is one of the more intriguing recruitments left on the board. While Bell has been a lean to both Ohio State and Alabama during the process, it’s looking more and more like Alabama is the team to beat unless Tennessee can pull the late upset. The Under Armour All-America has made official visits to Ohio State and Alabama, and is scheduled to trip to Knoxville this weekend as Butch Jones and staff look to pull the upset. Prediction – Alabama

We all won the lotto? You guys are nuts with your "Cheating" crap. You think Ole Miss has more money to throw around than our competition for these guys? If so, why did we start this year?

It's really pretty easy if you're willing to actually look at things objectively.

RNK- has big brother being an All American MLB as a RSF. He has been here 8 times since July (that we know of). He now has relationships with the coaches and other players. His moms obviously wants him here.

Treadwell- His best friend Anthony Standifer is a freshman CB on our team. From the same school. Their moms are also very good friends. His mom really loves Freeze.

Conner- USP kid. He is also a mommas boy and wants early playing time.

Hooks- went to JUCO about an hour from Oxford. Also has a VERY serious GF from Ripley (about 45 min from Oxford). I also think Hooks was going to AU before they messed up and wouldn't let him in.

Daniel- was down between OM and MSU. Need I say more? Kid also became quick friends with Treadwell and RNK at the UA game.

The rest of the kids are just good recruiting, but nothing out of the norm from the type of player we typically pull.

    • Don't listen to anyone. You are getting them because Coach Freeze is one helluva coach and a better guy. Y'all are on the ups and I can't wait to see it. It'll be nice to see someone rattle the cages of Alabama, UF, LSU, etc.

    • Carl Lawson & Vonn Bell become part of the Big Orange Family and help coach Butch Jones bring Tennessee back to the forefront in the SEC! Go Vols! Montravius Adams we need you too big guy!! Tennessee has produced more NFL players (298) and more 1st Round NFL Draft picks (39) than any other SEC School and Coach Jones is poised to carry on this tradition of producing fine young men ready to be successful in life on and off the field. VFL!

Hard to believe these kids are buying Kiffin's used car salesman act and picking Ole Miss. Why would anyone want to play for such a scumbag douche nozzle. Lulz at Kiffin for coaching DLine that gave up 66 pts to Texas.

EDIT: Oops, just got a pm from an OG of tBB who said I'm not suppose to play the game with that Kiffin, just the other Kiffin. But if the Ole Miss Kiffin trades his Rebel hat someday for a western hat then proceed with the game/ agenda.

      Yeah, no doubt.

A backfield of Duke Johnson and Alex Collins would be about as explosive as it gets - run game, passing game and return game combined.

    • I have no particular interest in Ole Miss either way, but I think they have the perfect storm going on at the moment. Huge improvement from last year, very good coach/recruiter IMO, and having guys like Connor and RN is like a magnet for some of the other top guys. They're in the SEC, which is important to many southeastern kids, and pretty much all of them can walk right in and play day 1. I'm not sure you could take out any 2 of these variables and have anything close to what they're doing, but right now, they have all these variables in their favor. I don't think they can sustain anything close to this for more than a year or 2, but right now they're working with positives from every angle. I really like HF as a coach, so it will be interesting to see if a better season next year translates to similar recruiting success 2 years in a row.

Unfortunately for Ole Miss, if that happens (8-4 next year, similar class, then say 10-2 the following year), HF will get a bigger job.
