And what, IYO, should Christians in America do that is different from what they do now? Again, I'm not trolling or flaming, I'm genuinely interested in your opinion.

Read Luke 21:1-4. Kinda supports my earlier response.

and Lo[v]e your neighbor (others) as yourself. (Luke 10:27)

This is the hardest for me to believe will ever happen. Even on these boards here (and I'm sure I've been guilty of this myself), people complain and say how much they disdain others (people on welfare, Obama, Republicans, illegal immigrants, Rick Perry etc. Whoever. Just another group of people different from them). It's sad, really.

You're exactly right. Too many American Christians, these days, identify themselves with a specific faction rather than following Christ in loving ALL folks. The media has labeled us the intolerant, "religious right," and often unfairly. However, we haven't given folks much reason lately to see us any differently. But, when the Church has been exactly what Pastor John alluded to in the Greatest Commandment passges he posted above, it's fantastic. When the Church is what it's suppposed to be the culture it ministers to is always greatly affected, and for the better. Even though you won't hear it on TV, our missionaries tell us that the Lord is doing wonderful things in parts of Africa and in China because of the Christian message and ethic being lived in its purity.

Great post goodnews and good question Gonig. Yeah, we as Americans live with such affluence that we forget how much we really need Him. We trust in our financial, personal, and socio-economic security instead of He who has given us these riches.

This. Pray that folks see the fallacy of living as if we don't need God.

Are you talking about giving AIDS to babies? Or the mass genocide?

Yeah, that's something that God has convicted me in. There is nothing positive that comes from trolling, bashing other teams, antagonizing people, or degrading politicians. Everyone, despite my disagreements over trivial issues, is a creation of God. I must respect that and that includes following Ephesians 4:29 - "Let no corrupt word proceed from your, except what is good for necessary edification, that you may impart grace upon the hearer."

We have really let politics and football become a pass for slandering and tearing others down.

Read Radical by David Platt or preferably, look closely at the lives of the 12 disciples in the gospels and compare that to the American Church (body of believers.)

No! This is for all people, but mainly a thread for people to share what God is doing in their lives and prayer requests. The purpose of this thread is to bring Glory to His name by interacting and encouraging all people so that they may be comforted or witnessed to!

Will prayer requests to non-christian gods be considered? There are many. When you said "let the Christians have their thread in peace" I thought maybe this was an exclusive deal.

If you have something going on in your life, I will gladly pray to God for you. I dont think its bad for non-christians to read the thread and ask questions. I just dont want this thread to turn into bickering and fighting.

Never meant to imply it was. My thinking is if a person clicks on a thread about the Bible started by someone who appears to becoming from a Christian background there is no need to make fun of a person for his religion since you knew what the thread was about. Like if someone had a daily Book of Mormon or Koran thread I'd expect it to be from a Mormon and Islamic point of view.

kinda what I was saying, but better put.

Read Psalm 46 this morning and verse 10 about being still and knowing he is God was very humbling and comforting.

  • Guys, just a general request, but pray for more laborers to be sent out into the harvest. There are over 4 billion people who arent Christians or havent heard His namesake.
