    Not sure where you are going with this. Pretty sure they ask you to check your gun when you enter a school. Are you suggesting every school have a bodyscan before you enter?

    Every school SHOULD have metal detectors after what has happened the past few years. Somehow the Gov needs to fund these schools for Metal Detectors.

    Also, ALL schools should have a Police Officer or 2 on duty during school hours at the school.. Would cost the schools nothing and is better than the crap security at schools nowadays.

  • I doubt metal detectors would have accomplished anything here, not like he needs to sneak weapons in. And not sure how feasible it is to ask 20 kids to empty their pockets everytime they come in from recess. And how would cops on duty not cost the school? It costs the city which is the same thing.

    No.. The you just move 2 cops from where they're assigned and put them at the school. Would cost nothing, just relocating 2 officers to a school.

    And a lot of schools already have metal detectors so it's not like this is new.

    Smart law. If people would have had guns on them in Newtown somebody could have taken this idiot out. Despicable that this took place and people are using it to advocate for or against guns. Freaking kids were killed, lets honor their memory for a minute at least.

    Yeah.. Lord forbit we spend money to put Police Officers in schools on duty during school hours.

    Anyways, for the 3rd time, it won't cost anything.. It's just reassigning the officers to a new place.

    Then thats two cops that have been moved from somewhere else that need to be replaced. When most districts are cutting police officers due to budgets. And thats assuming cities only have one school, my city has at least a dozen. So thats two dozen cops that need to be hired in my city that already cant respond to many things because they are shorthanded. And my point with metal detectors is they might deter random crime between students but will do nothing about nutjobs intent on killing everyone. They are suicidal anyway, just go in guns blazing and who cares if an alarm is going off.

    If assault weapons weren't legal the chance of that kids mom having one are drastically reduced. Kids were killed and you're using that to get more guns in schools. Honor them by banning assault weapons.

    I agree even though you would still be able to get assault weapons on the black market if you need them. It would still be a lot more expensive and make it a lot harder to get your hands on so you have a point.

In your fantasyland where everything is free then maybe we magicly all live in rich cities with overflowing coffers and we dont blink at spending more money. Should we charge the parents to cover the cost? Raise taxes for everyone? Cut garbage pickup? Could cities do this? Sure but it wouldnt be as easy as you make it sound.

    Just like drunk driving laws don't prevent tragedies, it's a worthy effort to try and slow them down. The argument that "criminals will still get assault weapons" is weak. Criminals still drink and drive. We don't just throw our arms up and say screw it just take a laws of DUI off the books.

    Assault weapons are banned. Taking semi-autos is what you mean. That includes, shotguns, Pistols, semi-automatic hunting rifles, AR-15's etc.

    If you have an assault weapon, you're either an Authorized dealer and Class 3 license holder ( takes around 15,000 dollars to acquire) or a criminal who purchased one illegally. Banning (Semi-automatic rifles) will only take them out of the hands of law abiding citizens who would never use them for evil purposes.
