Ok you've mentioned all of mine, and then say nope to all of them. I'll wait for yours or should we just move on?

I don't have a solution because I don't think that there is a solution for some nutjob getting his hand on a weapon and going crazy.

Say that guns weren't even in existence. Do you not think he couldn't have walked in that room with a couple of machetes. There is no cure for crazy.

No bit I can go to any hood in Atlanta and buy a fully automatic one. It's not hard.

Guns aren't drugs. You can't grow more of them. Almost all of them are made in the United States or Europe. We regulate things more strictly that are vastly more difficult to regulate. The idea that regulation will never slow or stop the acquisition of guns is a popular one but other countries have banned guns more strictly than the United States would ever accept and they have seen great success in reducing crime and death.

Does that about sum it up? I got it. Thanks.

No, we have 911, police officers, swat teams, instant communication withcell phones. We are already doing alot to prevent and contain these situations, thats all that can be expected right now. How many people were killed by tornados, yet everyone in kansas doesnt live in a cave. They have early alarm systems and shelters, yet people are still killed.

Based on the posts of many on this forum, they would see this as proof that we should never have bothered with early alarm systems and shelters because people were going to die anyway. We can never stop tornado deaths so why try? Why should I be 'punished' by spending my tax dollars on alarm systems and shelters for others? I'm a responsible law-abiding citizen and I have my own storm cellar.

You have a fair and good point. I just think that there is a thin line here and I'm not sure on where to put it. I mean should it be as hard to get into school as it is to a US Embassy in a foreign country on our own soil? I don't know where the line is, but I think most would agree that this is a slippery slope.

I am not really arguing in favor of throwing police at the problem. I do find it interesting (seriously, just interesting) that people who are normally rabidly anti-tax are willing to 'sacrifice a little liberty' by throwing billions of taxpayer dollars at this, but aren't willing to 'sacrifice a little liberty' through any meaningful gun control legislation. Even though reasonable firearms regulations, even strict ones, would have so little effect on your day-to-day life.

But why give up rights and freedoms we have had for centuries? Myself and millions of AR-15 owners enjoy having these weapons and using them as sport in a responsible manner. Because of the acts of a few? Just isn't right IMO.

I personally don't mind the gun or firearm regulation. It doesn't hurt me any because I can get them with or without regulation, of course I'm not going to shoot a bunch of innocent people with them. I'm just not with throwing a bunch of cops and metal detectors in elementary schools and the rest of the schools in the country. I've admitted that maybe it helps a little if you make it more expensive to get the guns or at least harder to get them. Hey I've said that it wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it stops the problem. I personally don't think you can stop a nut from pulling something like this if he's hellbent on doing it, especially if he knows he's going to blow his brains out at the end of it.

There's too many out there for the government to regulate. Regulation just isn't gonna happen. Maybe the future sell of them so if anyone wants them, they better get them.

Use of these weapons for self-defense is virtually non-existent, so you're balancing enjoyment and sport against death. Is the enjoyment of people who shoot targets for fun worth 20 dead children? If not, how many dead children would it take for you to willingly cease your enjoyment? 50? 100? 1000?

I understand the sentiment on trying to find a solution from keeping these things from happening, I really do.

I have just been trying to say, and I think you agree, that shit like this can't be stopped without severely making our lives different in ways people can't even fathom. You can't keep some random skitzo from finding a way to walk in a room and shocking the nation. There is no solution to curing crazy.

He couldn't have accomplished this with a bulldog 22 or a machete? With children this age all he would have had to do was lock the door and go to work with whatever he had. Don't blame this on the weapon hoss.

No, he could not have broken into a locked building, killed 6 adults, and then slaughtered 20 children with a machete. Unlikely with a revolver either. Guns with big magazines (never mind 30 round magazines) give you extra power.

No, I'm balancing a constitutional right and death. I choose rights given by our fore fathers and men and women who fought and died for this country the last 500 years. That's just how I see it. You can disagree but my line of thinking isn't wrong or right. It's law.

But you don't have to end ALL violence to seriously REDUCE it. We focus on extreme tragedies like this but there are 30,000+ gun deaths (never mind people who are shot and live, the numbers are staggering) a year in the United States. If we could stop 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, why not try? You'd probably be shocked by how many people don't have to pass background checks to get a gun. Most Americans believe you should have to pass a background check to get a gun. So why does the NRA fight so hard against it? Would background checks stop every person from getting a gun illegally? Of course not! Would it stop some of them? YES! Are we taking away anyone's guns? NO! So why not do it?

Disagree, this is mostly women and little kids we are talking about. You dont need extra power. Maybe he doesnt get quite as many but then again maybe without the soind of gunfire he gets more.

    Once again,

Regulate guns all you want to. I'm just saying that putting police and metal detectors at all school's is going a bit far. I know the OP was being the douche he typically is, but he made a point without trying to. You going to strip down people naked if your on a plane? It would seriously reduce crazy shit from happening on planes. Still doesn't happen often enough to fvck with people's liberties like that would do. Making school's military compounds with police guards and metal detectors is extreme.

Regulate guns however you want to. It doesn't effect me one way or the other.

The streets is the only place that I can think of.

I can't get a pistol . Every single place with a license to sell firearms requires a background check.

Edit: Most of the people that pull off this crazy shit are people that have no criminal record whatsoever.

Son, when you're out witted, you can call names but it gives you less credibility then you already have.

I thought we agreed you had no solution so you would step aside in this debate. All you've become is white noise.
