16 team playoff- all inclusive (2 scenarios)

  • This is what it could look like. No conference championship games. Feel free to give you utopias format as well.

Note: For selection reasons, I assume FSU and Clemson win at the moment, as well as the other favorites this weekend.

With no conference limit of teams:

    1) Notre Dame
    16) Arkansas St

    8) Texas A&M
    9) Florida St

    5) Kansas St
    12) Boise St

    4) Oregon
    13) Kent St

    3) Georgia
    14) Utah St

    6) LSU
    11) Rutgers

    7) Stanford
    10) Nebraska

    2) Alabama
    15) Tulsa

With a 2 team per conference limit:

    1) Notre Dame
    16) Arkansas St

    8) Clemson
    9) Oklahoma

    5) Kansas St
    12) Boise St

  • They should take the top 16 in the BCS regardless of conference affiliation and championships. This is fair because any undefeated (an even some 1-loss) MAC/MWC/CUSA team would get into the top 16

    1) Notre Dame
    16) Texas

    8) Stanford
    9) Texas A&M

    5) Oregon
    12) South Carolina

    4) Florida
    13) Oklahoma

    6) Kansas St
    11) Clemson

    3) Georgia
    14) Nebraska

    7) LSU
    10) Florida State

    2) Alabama
    15) Oregon State

These matchups would be so awesome to watch

  • Once they go to an 8 or 16 team playoff, i think they need to lose the preseason polls too. Maybe they can have a projected poll so to speak, but the meaningfull poll should start at like week 3 or 4 IMO.

    a) "two teams per conference" limit is a laughable farce.

if a "fair for all" 16 team playoff format were implemented....
    * go back to an 11 game regular season slate (deleting one patsie for all)
    * keep all Conf Title games ( money & chance of a Cindarella bubble buster)

    playoff qualifiers:
** every Conf Champ that finishes among the Top 20(or Top 25) gets an auto-in
** highest ranked non-Conf Champs complete the 16 team field

    the games:
*** seeded 1-16 by the final BCS Poll / high seeds play "HOME" games in round 1
*** rnd 2, Final 4 , & NCG use current Bowl rotation system to host games but add domed sites Cotton(Dallas),Chick-Fil-A(Atlanta),&LC Pizza(Detroit) to the frey.
    >> delete all small Bowls that have duplicate city sites (i.e. New Orleans Bowl). they're overkill to begin with.

    non-playoff Bowls:
    # Hawaii hosts top two ranked teams that miss the cut (bubble) each year.
    # other Bowls continue but now select the highest ranked teams available vs current pathetic Conf tie-ins resulting in better match ups

@ note: to really spark things up, delete the rnd 1 "Home site" system & allow the small Bowls (24 of them - Hawaii) to host the 1st round on a 3 year rotation. thus allowing the
the off playoff year rotation Bowls (16) to host better quality teams (#19 thru...) in lieu of trash tie-in games played today.

@ note 2: a Conf Champ that isnt ranked among te Top 20(or 25) isnt NC worthy so suck it.

  • hey Off,

just so you know that if "every favorite" won this weekend.... Notre DAME wouldnt be #1

You've got that backwards. Notre Dame is favored.

  • the current system has had only a handfull of hopefull's for past several weeks. a true playoff format would still have these games & more on tap.

    Stll with hope...
    * K-State / Texas (Horns cant afford another lose)
    * Clemson / USC (loser could end up in Hawaii)
    * Stanford / UCLA ( bubble buster for loser ?)
    * Rutgers / L'Ville (win or go home)
    * Kent State vs the field (need Top 20 finish)

basically #12 and below have hope but must win.

Arky would have been left out last year in such a scenario & they would have likely won any Conference other than the SEC a season ago.shrug

    I don't hate it.

I do think that one of 2 things need to happen. Either we get some uniformity in scheduling nationwide or a limit should be put on the number of teams from a conference. Regardless of what you may want, a plan would have to be agreed on for one thing and in the current state, I doubt anyone is going to go for a plan that could put 4 or 5 SEC teams in. Honestly, I would rather not see a bunch of games in the playoff scenario that we see constantly either.

To your point on Arkansas: maybe they could have won some other conferences last season, but they got absolutely murdered by both Alabama and LSU.

yet beat the Big12's 2nd best in a Bowl & imo would have also beaten #1 wantabe Okie Lite as well.
my point reguardless on Conference, the best teams should play.

i'm all for Cinderella's shot but a Conf Champ from a weak Conf is nothing more than a weak Conf Champ.

guidelines ? win your Conference, make the final Top 20 or 25 or put on your regular (non-playoff) Bowling shoes.

note: keep in mind w/ a 16 team field, no (2 or 3 loss) team missing the bubble has anyone to blame but themselves.
no matter S.O.S., it would be the 2 or 3 losses which put them on the bubble to begin with.

Most Saturdays I watch the full Gamecocks game and then a quarter or half of a few other games.

In this scenario I would be glued to the television from opening kickoff of the first game until double zeros of the last game. Would bring in multiple tvs if they had more than one game going on at a time.

Hopefully they at least expand it to 8 teams shortly after the 4 team experiment.

while i like my Conf Champ (potential Cinderella & bracket busters) if among the Top 20/25 model in a 16 team format....
the Top 8 is more than enough & there is an easy answer to 9's & 10's being left out, dont lose. shrug

on a side note this year would be more or less "The SEC Open".

as is the ND/USC & SECCG are the keys going into this weekend but w/ 8 ....
    Stanford / UCLA
    Fla / FSU
    S.Car / Clemson
    K-State / Texas

and others would actually have meaning .
