  • First of all, what did y'all think of Ben Sheets today, and who do you think the Braves trade for before the deadline?

  • Here is my opinion:

    1. Looked really good in his first start in two years. I think he could of pitched 1 or 2 more innings.
    2. Nobody now if Ben Sheets keeps pitching like he did today. And Janish didnt look that bad at Shortstop today so i dont think they will trade anyone. They have won 7 straight so if it aint broke dont fix it.biggrin

  • IF Sheets and Jurrgens continue to pitch well I don't think they look into picking up another starter.

IMO, they must find a quality reserve bat to strengthen the bench. A fourth outfielder or utility infielder type who can swing it a little bit. Hinske, Wilson, Diaz and Francisco leave a lot to be desired so the bench definitely needs a boost.

I'm not sure but I think Peter Moylan is on the verge of returning from his injury so if he pitches like he used to then I think they hold where they are in the pen as well. But a quality middle inning arm or specialist could be a benefit.

I don't think make a move for a "big name" (nor do I think they need to AT THIS POINT) but they certainly need a good bat off the bench.

An Omar Infante or Placido Palanco type IMO, would be a home run.

  • thought Sheets looked really good for his first start in 2years but i do think they have one more trade in them and it could be a big one - they need another bat / outfielder esp if they dont think they are going to sign Bourne to a long term contract

i agree with this. i've been pretty disappointed how they have performed this year. the toughest thing in baseball is to be a reserve bat, these guys don't get enough at-bats in order to establish any rhythm. diaz and hinske have done a good job in the past coming off the bench. i think once simmons gets back it is going to be tough to keep wilson.

Moylan just started his rehab assignment in Rome a couple of days ago, so he should be back in a couple of weeks along with Venters.

  • need them both very badly esp Venters who has been almost our best reliever over the last couple of years

    This x100000000000000000

Uggla is garbage for what we are paying him and has been since he put on the Braves uni. Hitting an abysmal .125 in July and .223 overall; not to mention being 5th in mlb in K's. We signed the guy because of his power, yet he is 10th on the team in SLG%.

After watching Jurrjens, I think we need to trade him plus idk, another random pitcher and get Grienke, trade Uggla and Pastornicky to the Dbacks for Upton and move Prado to second... perfect!

I like that trade because an outfield with Upton, Bourn and Heyward would be awesome. Whatever they do please keep Prado so he can take Chippers place next year. If they can't get greinke I would go after dempster or maybe Cole Hamels

    Justin Upton

I would love this, but knowing Frank Wren, we'll get BJ Upton instead. My passion for the Braves is exceeded only by Alabama football. I was at game 6 of the '95 World Series, and basically watch at least some of 75% plus of their games all year, but i swear to God if we get rid of Bourn and sign BJ Upton, i'll probably have to cheer for another team.

Then cheer for another one because there is very little chance they re-sign him. You do realize you can't "get rid of" someone who is a free agent, right? And being a Boras guy he is going to command a huge salary that the Braves won't be able to afford. He has also come out and said he will test the market so you can start freaking now. Unfortunately, there is this little thing called a budget, and the Braves and Wren are on one. If you want to be pissed blame the owners, not Frank Wren

  • Uggla is the Adam Dunn of 2B. Most only see a crappy average and overlook his on base % (.350). Not many 2B have his power. I'm not a Braves fan and don't think it was a good trade or signing given the money for a guy on the wrong side of 30 but he is still a pretty good 2B. Given his age I don't see a rebound to his Marlin days though.

Big day for y'all with Sheets pitching. A bad performance could put more pressure on the FO.

Agreed, though Uggla like Dunn plays terrible defense. Any category where Uggla excels should be taken into consideration his defense is an embarrassment.
