2012 Eight team NC playoff ...

  • an 8 team (top 8 reguardless of conf. affiliation) playoff is the answer.

10x the intrigue & a winner on the field. plus for fun ... #9 vs #10 in Hawaii Bowl (the we're bitching because we didnt play our way in bowl)

    - if all the final weeks Fav's win ? KSU to #5,Georgia falls to #6, Stanford's "extra win" moves them to #7, LSU in at #8. and A&M plays South Carolina in Hawaii
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8 team playoff / 2012 (in all final weeks FAV's win)

    1-ND vs 8-LSU
    4-Oregon vs 5-Kansas St
    ----------------------------------
    2-Bama vs 7- Stanford
    3-Florida vs 6-Georgia

if K-State fell to Texas adding A&M to the frey could the CF world live with "the SEC Open" ? coffee

  • I would prefer if they tried to avoid rematches in the first round. Maybe switch Georgia and Stanford.

it would all depend on the final poll but seeds are seeds 1 thru 8, rematches would be bound to happen. there could actually be multiple rematches shrug

    rnd 2 Ga vs Bama
    NCG Bama vs LSU

also keep in mind that if Ga & Stanford "switched" then Ga would simply play Bama again. shrug

  • If they ever go to 8 teams, then they really need to cut back the regular season. That's too many games, and only increases the risk of serious injuries and fatigue. I know in Division III they have a 32 team playoff or so, but their regular seasons are only 10 games at the most (some teams play 9).

I also am aware that some high school teams play upwards of 15 or even 16 games in a season, including a playoff, but high schools also play 12 min quarters compared to 15 min. So, a 16 game HS season is the equivalent of almost a 13 game college season.

I would agree with an 8 team playoff if they can figure out a way to cut the entire season down to 14 games total, which is where max seasons currently stand (but even 14 is a bit more then it probably should be).

    yep.

better answer would be switch ksu and uga.

that way, the only possible rematches (bama/lsu, bama/uga, uf/lsu, uf/uga, uo/stanf, nd/stan) would only happen in the title game.

imo, it's also a more likely outcome should uga lose. i think they'd fall behind oregon and uf, but not ksu.

  • I'd rather take the risk of having a rematch in round 2. Avoid rematches in round 1. Similar to the NCAA basketball tourney.

cut one regular season fluff game(11) from the schedule.

  • Haha I would take a Hawaii bowl vs. A&M

in that case (if you don't want a rematch in 1st round or the final) then you'd need to set it up like this:

    nd v uo
    ksu v stan

    bama v uf
    uga v lsu

that way, no 1st rd rematches, and no chance of a rematch in final. but you're guaranteed at least 1 rematch in rd 2 (all potential matchups from the sec bracket is a rematch), and a 50-50 chance of rematch on other side.

obviously you could swap one of the sec matchups with one of the other and have potential for no rematches, but you also have potential rematch in final again.

also, as in the bball bracket, i can't stand when they stack one bracket with a single conf.

if an 8 team playoff was ever started it would be 1 thru 8 w/ matchups by seed. this year there would simply be rematches involved.
but hey what do ya do if 6 SEC teams are among the TOP 10 & 4 make it in ? the seeds fall where they fall & after that, let the games begin.

imo, keep the BCS,improve the flawed formula of S.O.S.'s, and play the 1st round as home sights.
