2014 Big Ten Recruiting Needs

Today, we take a look at the Big Ten and identify what each of its teams' top needs are for the 2014 recruiting class. Top50 OT Jamarco Jones made the list twice.

  • If MSU is OSU's biggest competition for Jamarco Jones, I like OSU's chances a lot better now that Jimmy Bolls is running the show up there

  • I keep seeing Blacknall's name in these articles. Excellent player.

Ohio State and Michigan State are not the only two schools Jones likes early in the process. However, they are two schools he's high on. He'll visit Michigan State for the Spartans spring game and may possibly come in the night before and stay the night. Jones has been to Ohio State several times and the Buckeyes may be the team to beat at this point but still a long way to go and many more visits to take.

What about Wisconsin? gault, panos, and Stewart are all actively recruiting him to join them.

Somebody should tell Lance to sack up and come clean

Wisconsin falls in line with the Ohio State and Michigan State are not the only two schools Jones likes early in the process. Others that have emerged includes Florida, Michigan, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin. Jones is also still racking up offers and continuing to evaluate his new options.

  • Great article Steve, and I can't disagree with your comments about the Wolverines.

Michigan definitely could use some more dynamic pass rushers on the roster. Only have 2 of those types of guys on the roster, and both are FAR from proven. A dynamic pass rusher like Dashawn Hand would be absolutely massive.

Michigan could also use a faster WR to stretch the field, and they haven't gotten one since Jehu Chesson in 2012.

Jamarco definitely seems like a tOSU guy just from my uneducated perspective. Certainly don't expect to see him in the Maize and Blue unless someone weird happens.

  • Thanks, Steve. I was thinking about what Penn State's biggest need might be, and I agree that cornerback is it. OT and DT would be next on my list - we've got some numbers there, but we need quality at those spots. Losing Jamil Pollard in 2012 hurt.

I think that Michigan does have some playmakers at the skill position on offense. Maybe not the big-named guys as a recruits, but guys that can come in and give the Wolverines flexibility and different skill-sets to attack defenses in a variety of ways.

Michigan is talking about winning National Championships and they're headed in that direction. To compete for all the marbles, the one area where you have to be good is the front seven on defense. I like the quality of linebackers Michigan has brought in the last couple recruiting classes as far as NFL potential goes. I think that the Wolverines need more difference makers on the defensive line, particularly at end, to play at that National Championship level.

    Just my opinion.

    To add to that.

Chris Wormley could be that type of dude. He's a big-time talent and I hope all is well with him as he continues to come back from injury.

I agree, if they want to be competing at the highest level they need to add a little more to the defensive line. They have some nice pieces there, but not the depth.

If Michigan could somehow land Mone, McDowell, and Hand or Marshall that would go a long way in helping in that area. Coaches also seem to be hitting the recruiting trail hard for DL and more specifically pass rushers. Seems like that is one of their highest priorities.

Mone is already in the boat.

Michigan is in my opinion top two for the other three with a chance to put them all in a winged-helmet.

Definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

Those guys together, that's an SEC-size, SEC-athletic, defensive line.

Wtf is wrong with you? If there is a thread on tBB with Michigan involved, you trash them. You have 3 separate screen names that you have used at Wolverine247 to troll. Nobody else in this thread was flaming another school until you dropped in. Learn to relax.

  • I agree with WR for the badgers. We have gotten some decent prospects, but very hard to gauge progress with the terrible play at QB. New staff is hitting WR's hard.

Umm Steve was talking about them so I decided to comment. UM has 1 NT in the last 60 years. Lets relax on the national title/power nonsense

For the love of god, cope, please stop talking. Please.

As for the topic at hand, it'll be interesting to see how the midwest OL class distributes this year. tOSU already got 2 of theirs, UM has last year's haul, but still everyone wants more linemen. OSU is going after Jamarco Jones and others, plus even a highly rated JUCO guy out east.

Jones would be a great guy to sign, and I can't imagine Bollman, regardless of what you OSU guys think of him, can be more bland and average than Roushar. Hoping for a improvement recruiting the OL.

    Next question.
