2014 LB Michael Ferns commits to Michigan

I think Ferns would be better on offense, not saying he wouldn't be a good college LB, but just a higher ceiling at TE or H-Back.

I've seen people say that , but I don't agree.

He looks very instinctive at LB from the video I've seen of him, and he has a great frame to be a SAM backer, or even possible a WDE depending on how he develops in the next couple of years.

Also I like Booker a lot and would love to have him, but he is a prototypical WILL, and with the the guys we have already Ferns is a great fit.

He may be better than Ferns, but it isn't much of a gap IMO.

I think we are at 18 or 19 with Haynes leaving.

Yeah, sucks too because I thought Kenny was going to be a good one

Who do you guys have at Will that you like?

Don't get me wrong Ferns looks like a very good player but he just isn't the same type of athlete Booker is. Booker had something like 150 tackles and 15 sacks as a sophomore. Who ever gets Booker is getting a very very good player.

James Ross, who had an offer from OSU pre-Tressel firing, is the most talented WLB Michigan has. He'll be a true frosh this year. I suspect he will earn the starting spot sometime in '13 over Desmond Morgan.

Desmond Morgan is serviceable, but he lacks the athleticism of Ross.

O I remember loosing out on him. I really wanted him in our class. Very good LB prospect.

Morgan isn't flashy, but he's a real solid player.

Biggs Ross is an outstanding talent, as is Royce Jenkins-Stone (Although he needs to get his weight up)

Kaleb Ringer has been working at WILL, and has looked good

Also Ben Gedeon for '13 is athletic enough to play any of the LB spots.

Springfield kids grow up despising Michigan, so that was never an option. Hicks was all Texas. His mom and his coach all relocated there. Trey chose Bama because they showed him " love" and I guess we didn't. Good kid tho. His spot went to Curtis Grant - highest rated Backer in the country. We also took Ryan Shazier who will be better than all 3 IMO, and so far he has proven that on the field. Last year when Josh Perry committed he was the #1 LB in Ohio. I realize things change. Missing out on Bolden & McCray were circumstances of space at a specific time. We also missed on Chris Borland (wisky). You could argue LB depth in Ohio is a good problem to have. We still have the Greatest Shot in this state. And if you think about it, some of the best Backers are less rated guys.

    Good luck to Ferns!!!!

I agree without a doubt, but some dude on Rivals or Scout said he thinks Ferns will be the #1 LB in Ohio in their first rankings.

    Either way, both good players.

I'm from Saint C's area and you shouldn't be able to be the top player in Ohio playing against that competition. I love my area, but the football isn't up to snuff with the other areas of the state.

That's flawed... so even if you are the best player in the state (not saying Ferns is), you can't be considered as such, because of who you play?

Not everybody gets to choose where they go to HS.

Yeah, lack of competition would make anyone look good. Unless you absolutely dominate everything and everyone. If you totally dominate then I would give a look, but I'm telling you. The kids good but factor in the competition.

He was going to go to you guys before Thor's hammer dropped. Good for a kid in this area to continue playing football at the FBS level. That's about as rare as a Unicorn
