    Good assessment, IMO.

I think the you LBs have enough speed for Clemson, though, especially if Frost is as advertised.

Auburn's D should be improved....although they may take some lumps again this year, but in 2013 this should be a top 10 unit nationally, IMO.

If Frazier can be a positive and not a negative, 2013 should be a very interesting year in the SEC West, with Bama, LSU, Auburn, and possibly Arkansas all have really top notch teams. Also, Mississippi St and Texas A&M should have really solid teams that year as well.

Well Frost passed up a 1 year starter in Jonathan Evans (trJr). Granted Evans isn't the greatest of talent but for a red fresh to jump him means he has to be talented. I guess we will see soon.

I think our D should be vastly improved this year from last. The biggest difference is Roof. And this isn't a knock at Roof, as I am sure his defense could have been successful. The problem last year was Chizik wanted his type of defense and Roof didn't know that philosophy. So there was a jumble of both philosophies which was a major problem. Now Chizik and BVG are the exact same philosophy (the 2 started in the game at the same time on the same staff). This should bode well for continuity and should make a better result.

Next year the SEC as a whole should be very good. However, I cannot find myself believing in MsState until they prove that they belong. I listen to the hype all the time and I tried to give them some credit last year and they burnt me on it. I don't trust them and won't until they can prove something to me.

I actually think our Dline is going to be a strong point this year. It seams that Lemonier and Dee Ford are going to be the starting ends with Eguae and Sanders being the primary backups. For Dee Ford to pass up a 2 year starter means alot in terms of talent. On the inside, we have about a 5 man rotation with Whitaker and Carter looking to be the starters. A. Blackson, D. Sigler, and G. Wright are going to be the rest of the 5 man rotation. All 5 guys got a ton of playing time last year and really came into their own at the end. I really think depth wise this is the one of the better lines we have had in a really long time. All 5 of these guys are huge and very disruptive. I expect them to have a huge year this year.

Now I am most concerned at LB. and I think that is obvious to anyone who somewhat follows AU.

Secondary, I have heard we have some very fast guys and talented players but none really stood out last year. TBell is going to be back and should start. Davis and Therezie is going to be the other starter. Both of these guys rotated last year until TBell got hurt then they had to start. Word is that after the spring Davis and Therezie are considered the starters but I can't imagine TBell not getting the nod. These guys are supposed to be talented just haven't seen enough of them to form an opinion. Then we have Mincy behind them and freshman behind him. So we have one vet. and talented with limited experience players. I think this is a little week of a position.

Safety, I think we should be pretty good here. We are going to have McNeal, Whitehead, and Florence fighting for playing time. All 3 are going to be good players and all 3 played last year some. Then behind them is Ryan White and Means which both of them saw some field last year. Of course the biggest advantage to this year is NO THORPE.

I think our strongest points are going to be Dline and Safeties.

I'm so happy Tbell won't start

Just another typical opening game AU nail biter.

  • I think it's a sloppy game on both sides. Auburn wins 24-21. Last second Parkey bomb for the win.

No doubt about..both teams need this game bad.

  • With neiko Thorpe gone aubie's defense is instantly 14 points per game better. No idea what to expect from the offense. Could have 2 sophs and 3 frosh starting on the o line.

Nice report..thanks. I had forgotten about Florence and Mcneil, but they were studs coming out of HS. DLine sounds pretty good. I don't know much about BVG's style, but a really stout DLine can help make avg linebackers look good. You just never know about corners until they play up to their potential, so from that I'd take the weaknesses as LB and corner I guess.

Should be interesting to see if there is an immediate improvement in the D from last year. Obviously, it's bound to be better, but how much, and how quickly will we see BVG's personality through the players. My guess is we'll see a lot of stunts from the DLine to try and apply pressure to keep the max backers in coverage, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Yep. With Ellington, Watkins, and Allen gone, not sure Clemson has enough offense.
